Interesting article today with Peter Sumich who is predicting a heap of Victorian Freo players to head back at seasons end. He said he has heard Geelong are big time into Sean Darcy, and that Darcy Tucker wants to come to us.
Found it weird that Freo used all their high picks on Vic players, guys like Brayshaw, Cerra, Serong etc. Surely law of averages would result in a few heading home.
Surely Darcy doesn't end up with us. We have some decent future ruck prospects and I wouldn't trade any of them for Darcy.

If this is some plot by Fremantle to get Neale I'll be livid

Has anybody actually seen Sean Darcy play? If he was delisted or a Zac Smith esk trade then yes but otherwise a massive pass. The Game went past his style in the 1995 GF.
Even then he’s in the 2s until Stanley is done then still in the 2s once Neale out Tsapatolis is ready. He's not a modern ruck.

South Adelaide
Jason Horne

Midfielder

17, 184cm, 78kg

Key stats: Averaged 157 ranking points in six under-18 matches in 2020, before making nine SANFL League appearances

The South Adelaide midfielder has it all, which is why he is an early favourite to be picked first in this year’s draft. Horne is strong on the inside, but also electrifying away from the contest, boasting a mix of speed, evasiveness and terrific hands overhead. Horne was SA’s MVP at the under-16 national carnival and, after a dominant start to 2020 in the under-18s, played the final nine games of the year in South’s league side. Panthers coach Jarrad Wright has declared the 17-year-old is “bigger, stronger and better” this season. One coach at the SANFL season launch on Tuesday said Horne was ready to take thecompetition by storm and could even figure in state coach Jade Sheedy’s plans to face WA in May.

Darcy Tucker - yes!
Sean Darcy - absolutely f*ck no

Sean Darcy perhaps one of our later 2nd round picks, given he is ready and good to go. I would entertain it given Stanley is getting old, and I dont rate Darcy Fort, nor do I think Esava can be a full time ruck.
Given that we just invested in Neale and Greek Freak for development, its interesting that he wants back to us.
Darcy Tucker, maybe a late 3rd or early 4th round pick, but probably not what we need. Though he is a nice left footer, has a big boot on him and he can tackle, he ain't slow either. You never know with a Tucker, coming back home, it might elevate his game. I don't know if he can kick on his right foot though.
We usually take these ex western victoria lads that want to come back. So I reckon we will probably take both if the price is right.

You should probably watch more of him - highly underrated player at the Dockers, and wouldn't come for any less than an early 3rd IMO. Could easily slot into our Best 22

Putting aside the visual of him playing , the size of him , his style etc... a 23 year old ruck that has played around 50 games would fit into what we have shown we like to trade in. A player ready to play and his form at afl level available to assess ....

He is contracted so what would Freo want.

My guess is they would want a R2 plus a WA kid like Neale. We would paying them for their development and be giving them a replacement kid for him.

Tucker... again.. at his age , he would be 25 and 90 odd games to his name... seems to fit what we would like. Whether he is good enough.. hard to gauge imo. but it would be rel to cost

You guys are harsh on Sean Darcy... Christ he's practically a kid at 22 and could be anything by 25, for a bloke his size i wouldnt be saying no considering all we have is bloody Stanley.
his lack of mobility and athleticism is what makes me low on him, you cant really have much upside as a ruck without it given his below average tap work. fine with picking him up for a pick in the 35+ range but I wouldn't offer more than that.

Id think it would involve Neale for sure. The question is .. how long before Neale plays for us? What do we do till he is ready to play... is there a better options to recruit as a ruck?

We'd be absolutely moronic to trade out our highest drafted ruck in the past decade, for a lumbering injury prone trade in that hasn't really shown anything to this stage of his career.

Neale has so much more upside than Darcy IMO. If Darcy drops 10-15 KG than maybe, but otherwise, Neale was one of the highest rated rucks in last year's draft, and one we should absolutely be holding onto moving forward.

imo he is going number 1 for sure. goal kicking mids are a premium

I guess we will see... but its not much different in the way we traded Fogarty for a player they thought could immediately play.. Darcy if his body is up to it ..will have 5 plays years ahead ..and could play from day1
I think a late 2nd on its own is more than enough, throwing in Neale who was also a 2nd rounder is overkill imo. Neale seems to be loving the club and is a great kid. Think is upside is much higher than Darcy too given his athleticism and skills are well ahead of Darcy. Feel like Darcy is just locking in a guy that always gonna be a middle of the pack to average ruck whereas Neale could be a top 5 ruck if things go right. Wellsy picked him for a reason and hes the highest ruck we have taken in a long time. Would be really disappointed if they gave up on him after 1 year.

He is OOC 2022.. if he is prepared to extend his contract then perhaps we look at other options... but in the way we have traded and drafted... I could see us being willing to do a trade that involved him. What the deal would be is anyones guess..maybe we get a bit back ..who knows..but Darcy is contracted..so it its only going to happen if Freo is happy to do it.

William Kirkpatrick..... no 34.... son of Oysters!

Honestly... would like all of your views. What would Sean Darcy be worth in a trade pick...

I really hope we sell him a future vision, because him leaving would be just another copout way in which we've decided to take the easy route of grabbing an established player for a select position, rather than developing them ourselves
