Seriously why on Earth would the GCS do that?

They gave pick 2 & 3 originally and they've put 3 years of time and development in on them, not to mention they're both contracted.

No way the GCS won't want more than what they originally gave up to secure them...much more!

They probably wouldn’t, but that’s what I’d offer if they were both out of contract and pushing for a move home. Anything more and I’d rather take the picks to the draft

If anonymity is what he wants, then playing average and/or for Gold Coast will help him achieve that. Unfortunately, fame and having fans is what accompanies becoming a star footballer. Can't have one without the other.

I'll be surprised if his desired partnership with Ben King survives Ben King's current contract!

Life at GCS (and GWS) has and will always see a very high turnover of very high draft picks.

Will take 2 firsts to just get one of them, even out of contract.

I rate him, but I also rate us and our use of draft picks and given what he'd likely cost I'm pretty neutral on the whole situation.

I'd trade him in a heart beat for the equivalent of Jones and McHenry as evidence of our recent drafting competence.

Ben King will be offered a massive contract by the Saints, to get both brothers at the Club would be a marketing dream, considering their elite talent.

Luko I think will come to us, I see Rankine going to the Power. Based on nothing. :drunk:

The Saints cap is already blown, they need to wait until all that dead cap is gone before they put in an offer.

Collingwood or Essendon maybe even Hawthorn are in the box seat to secure Ben

As if they could afford Ben King with everyone else they've brought across, and how long a lot of those contracts are. Genuine chance to break Franklins record for the largest contract this sport has seen regardless if he stays or goes. 21 year old (at seasons end), pick 4 and already well on track to being the key forward of the next generation.

Definitely not Collingwood, seeing they've also ****ed up their cap to secure Grundy. They do have two years to sort it out, but it's hard to genuinely imagine them doing so without burning everything down.

Having watched Luko closely again last week I'm starting to wonder what type of player he is going to end up.

He's not really physical, but he has good endurance and appears a smooth mover.

He's not really fast but appears to have some footy smarts about him.

He's much talked about kicking can be quite impressive. It's a beautiful action but I'm not sure he weights his kicks as well as he could. He has the ability to kick it flat with accuracy though which is a talent in itself.

So what is he?

He's like a giant HB distributor.

Is that where he is destined to play?

If he was to some how miraculously end at Adelaide I would be putting him at half forward.

Wing and play him between the arcs..if tom lynch has perfected the connector role then lukosius could take that to a whole new level with his elite field kicking

Lukosius is a star already, and he has so much more development and scope left in him to impact a football game in a number of different ways - it's ridiculous really. He's only 20 at the moment.

In addition to playing off a bank flank and wing, GC looks like they are moving him forward more consistently now too. He's hit the scoreboard in all three games this year.

The only other player I can think of off the top of my head that has the number of weapons and versatility Lukosius has at that height/size is Nik Cox from Essendon, but Lukosius obviously has the runs on the board and proven production at this point.

Lukosius is only just getting started - he will be one of the best players in the league for many years to come.

One is probably doable.

You don't see Melbourne clubs throwing their hands in the air saying it's too hard.

We have very little proven talent to spend our cap on, hence the big contracts to fading stars.

The cap is there, the question is: which one?

You could even call him a connector. I wonder if we could have got him by swapping our connector, and our Jones pick, back in 2018.

I think versatility can be a little overwhelming

Most versatile players can play reasonable good footy in various roles however elite players dominate and own the game in their preferred role

I think Luko needs to find his preferred role and become elite in that role, or he could become an unsettled footballer

He'll be a better Gunston

That's my point, they're simply not worth the cost. Every year's draft produces good players. Hell we can't fit some of our kids in now.

Agreed, the draft pick cost for either is going to be massive. We need to get smart with our list building, no more Bryce Gibbs style trades unless its for a genuine established Elite Midfielder or Key Forward between 22-26 years of age.

Whilst both Rankine and Lukoscious are tracking well, they project as a specialist small forward and tall flanker respectively. Neither of which are positions you build a team around. They are icing on the top type players. Go hard at them come free agency, all going well, we should be a year or 2 into a genuine window at that point and either/both should complement nicely.
