Rough. He isn't bad.

Neither is Gleeson if we’re real.

Working on a 2 year deal for Jones as well apparently, which is obviously a far higher priority

I don't mind the 2 year deal for Ham. He's shown actual development and improvement and is still very young. There is also a clear role for him.
That said I'm still not 100% sure he makes it - definitely needs to keep improving.

Jones we definitely want to retain. Looks very promising and I think is a very good chance to hold down a key forward post for a long time. Lots of untapped potential.

Umm, still on Richmond's list?

Preseason, not midseason. I actually looked and he’s under contract for 2022 so there goes the PSD thing but a combination of tea leaves, loins and common sense tells me he won’t be there next year and either us or North make almost too much sense

If we were going to take a run at him, it would have made more sense to do so last year.

By the end of 2022 there is a fair chance Cotchin/Edwards are on the way out of the midfield rotation and he is playing more regularly

We did, actually

I don't think we'll get close but George Hewett is a FA and is basically everything you'd want as a defensive inside mid

Pipe dream, but what would Oliver cost?

Dream scenario -> Keep Merrett & Parish
Add Oliver (2022 1st?)
Draft best mid with our first.

Draper Oliver McGrath
Cox Parish Merrett
Support -> Shiel, Perkins, Langford, Smith, 2021 1st.

Dreaming. He'll cost 2 firsts

no way in hell we get him for just a future first rounder.
I'd love to have him but the money/picks we'd have to cough up would be too much for where we're at right now.

Hooker to retire
Hurley trade to a contender looking for a defensive big for a final push.
Zaka push into free agency.

Delist from main list: Ambrose, Phillips and Cutler.

Resign everybody else for various contract lengths.

Gives us 6 main list spots to play around with which might include upgrading waterman depending on how he plays out this season.

Hopefully grab somebody like Tyler Sonsie with our first round pick.

Do agree. but I wonder if he attracts the 2x 1st (with 2nd coming back) std deal.
Generally only applies if player is in contract...and buying club doesn't have a sharp PSD pick.

The money i'd be less worried about.
Hooker, Heppell, Hurley, Zaka all getting close to retirement.
We lost Daniher, Saad, McKenna & Fantasia last year.
There are a lot of basic contracts we can cut this year.

Merrett, Parish, Jones & Stringer loom as the only key signatures we need.
Everyone else i'd argue becomes expendable from a $$ perspective.

The focus has to be the middle the ground.

I'd still like to have a look at O'Halloran or Ely Smith. There is definitely room on the list to offer an opportunity to some players who are ready to go but who will be starved for opportunity at their current clubs.

Also loved what I head Matt Rendell say about Connor Stone during SEN's coverage of the 2020 draft.

I quite like Lipinski though he's not an inside mid. Could allow a reshuffle to play on the wing himself or play on a flank. He's more of an afterthought at this stage.

Possibly small forwards too
Tippa is in fine form, and i reckon Smith will end up one too.
In 2-3 years we may need to have their replacements up and running.
