Carried the Australian attack (with Hammond) in the WI in 73 after Lillee broke down in the first test.
Hilf was the best bowler on either side in the 2009 Ashes, and got MOTM in the next test he played against the Windies before injury. His games against Pakistan and India were top notch, he was denied the plumb LBW which would have won Australia the game and the series v India (1 wicket loss and no reviews), a bad series against England, but the next year he smacked India and did well v the Windies. If he'd gotten that LBW, which noone could seriously doubt (!), he'd have taken 100 test wickets...

Remarkable similar careers for both players...

Hmmm...a bit nebulous, it seems. Spent my entire life thinking he was born in Tassie, but turns out he was a Victorian...played his first senior footy and cricket in Tassie, but was 19 when he arrived. Ok...further revision of definition (unless I axe him and make him eligible for the imported XI instead...no chance he'll get past Lillee and the Windians!) - senior sport debut as a Tasmanian and a significant career as a Tasmanian, with Aus representation to qualify. That means Shane Watson would oust Charles Eady and I'd need to find another imported opening international rep bat who played significantly for Tassie...a bit thin on options if Ibadulla is the other one...!
The criterion usually applied to this type of team is the place where they first played FC cricket.
So you would keep Badcock and Nash, but lose Walker and Ring (geez, he was a boring old fart on WoS!)

PS, and also "acquire" Watson.

It's a pity neither you or I could get Hamish Rutherford or Haroon Rasheed into one of our teams. Then we could have had H.R. puffin' stuff.

I have seen one or two teams here which contained overseas players who played for Australian states. This is a team of overseas players who played district cricket in Melbourne.

Rohan Kanhai (North Melbourne)
Aravinda de Silva (Prahran)
Garfield Sobers (North Melbourne)
Clive Lloyd (South Melbourne)
Ian Botham (University)
Paul Collingwood (Richmond)
Gus Logie (South Melbourne)
John Emburey (Prahran and St. Kilda)
John Snow (Carlton)
Abdul Qadir (Carlton)
Frank Tyson (Footscray and University)

Kanhai could be wicketkeeper. He started his career fulfilling this position.

Nice team. I'll have a go for Sydney. Selection based on International performances only, otherwise Ian Salisbury would be in there as he had a huge season for Sydney Uni in the late 90's. Alas his international career falls well short of the players picked.

Andrew Strauss (Sydney Uni - 98/99)
Geoff Boycott (Waverley - 76/77. Holds all-time record for most centuries in a season - 7 - at an average of 165)
Kevin Pietersen (Sydney Uni - 02/03)
Alvin Kallicharran (Manly - 76/77)
Mike Gatting (Balmain - 79/80. Leading run scorer that season)
Tony Greig (Waverley - 75/76. Leading wicket taker that season with 77. Played sporadically in season afterwards.)
Imran Khan (Sydney Uni - 83/84)
Malcolm Marshall (Waverley - 91/92)
Shoaib Akhtar (Mosman - 01/02)
Waqar Younis (North Sydney - 03/04. Didn't perform well from memory)
Monty Panesar (Randwick - 11/12, Wests 13/14, Campbelltown - 16/17)

Can Strauss keep? He's going to have to. Can't find one in my memory reserves.

That is some pace lineup and very tempted to go all out pace attack and have Greig as my main spinner given Andy Roberts is sitting on the sidelines, although I think he only played a few games for Sutherland in the mid 70's. Feels like that team might have a #11 who doesn't get much of a bowl....

I've been a little bit liberal on Marshall and Akhtar as they only played a handful of games themselves. All the rest - to my knowledge - at least played a full season or something close to the mark. I think a couple of may have played other seasons - I'm sure Strauss did for Manly but can't find any record of it.

A James Bond-related eleven

(I began by finding 4 or 5 names I was really happy with. Some of the other links to Bond are a bit tenuous).

Andrew Hudson (scored 2,007 Test runs)
Charlie Macartney (as in the singer of Live and Let Die)
Dean Jones (as in the singer of Thunderball)
Martin (From Russia With) Love
Dr Monty Noble (Noble went into dentistry after cricket)
Henry Blofeld
Q
uinton de Kock (w/k)
Mr Cameron White (villain in Casino Royale)
Guy Whittall (was once dismissed: c James b Bond in a first class game)
Damien Fleming
Bond, Shane Bond

Here is the link to Whittall’s dismissal (look at Zimbabwe’s first innings)

All something to do with 99?

Brett Lee test debut in 99, Phil Simmons last test in 99, Big Ship FC debut in 1899, Hayward 1999 test runs.

I won't drag this out.

Think music. :)

Oh bugger it, I'll explain. It's too obscure anyway!

It's the California bands team. :)

Phil Simmons (Patrick Simmons - Doobie Brothers)
Alistair Cook (Stu Cook - Creedence)
Tom Hayward (Richie Hayward - Little Feat)
Warwick Armstrong (Billie Joe Armstrong - Green Day)
Douglas Jardine (Al Jardine - Beach Boys)
Andrew Hudson (Saul "Slash" Hudson - Guns'n'Roses)
Ian Gould (Billy Gould - Faith No More)
Brett Lee (Tommy Lee - Motley Crue)
Courtney Walsh (Joe Walsh - Eagles)
Bill Johnston (Tom Johnston - Doobie Brothers/Bruce Johnston - Beach Boys)
Jon Holland (Stone Temple Pilots)

Emerg: Elyse Perry (Steve Perry - Journey)

Mike Love
Al Jardine
Gene Simmons

Depends on your taste in music.
Some are my tastes, some aren't.

I started off with about 6-7 names that came easily, the rest I had to look up. :)

Little Feat are a criminally underrated band.
You know you've made it when you appear on F Troop, albeit as one of the bands which led to your formation.
