Wembley was a former greyhound racing track that hosted English International matches[Exactly] and Cup Finals [Exactly] until it was demolished in 2000.

You are being highly semantic in claiming that the ground was an oval (it wasn’t)...
Wembley had the shape more of an oval, it was not a rectangle- & it was a fine ground to play tier 1 club & international soccer matches, FA Cups etc. for c. 60 years.
And in the UK, soccer is incontrovertibly the top sport, attracting huge crowds every week- the opposite of Australia.

So no clubs in Europe clearly aren’t happy to play on athletic tracks as you claim.
I am saying tier 1 soccer was played on these European stadia for many decades, without any significant problems- & is continuing.
It is important to note, obviously, Australia is not Europe, where soccer has great cultural relevance for a very long time. The A League pales in comparison.

I said tier 1 soccer has long been played on ovals overseas, where soccer is by far the dominant sport, attracting very large crowds nearly every week. These oval games have been a success there.
But in Australia, however, where soccer is not the major sport, & usually attracts small to modest crowds, playing tier 1 soccer matches on ovals is fine.

If anything using your logic AFL should be happy with using rectangular stadiums in states that the sport in not the first preference.
Your comment is absurd & incorrect- that is NOT my logic at all.
AF, cricket, soccer, RL, & RU can all be played successfully & properly on oval stadia- but AF & cricket (sixes & fours too easy to score) cannot be played properly on rectangular grounds...& the taxpayer is protected.

The delusion here is real.

You clearly are the one who is deluded.

You have been claiming that GR club & school AF, & the AFL, has not been having a significant boom in Sydney, & NSW/ACT- & you have been denying that club & school male contact RL (& RU) in Sydney, NSW, & ACT is not in a significant, long term decline.

I, & others, rebutted your views. I have asked you to respond (about 10 times!) to my questions on these issues, my links, & official registration nos. etc. from MSM experts, & RL, RU, & soccer current & former officials & players supporting my views- but you have continuously refused to answer my questions to you, by addressing the issues in those questions.

Why are you continuously refusing to answer my questions to you?

NRL gets ten times the audience ...
You are lying again- & you have done so many times on BF. You are trolling GR AF & the AFL in general in NSW etc., & GWS in particular.

I will ask you 2 further questions:-

. The AFL usually appears on the secondary FTA channels in Sydney & Brisbane.
It is widely accepted that programs, when occasionally they are shown at the same time on the main channel, will usually increase their ratings by 2 or 3 times.
Do you dispute this- if so, on what basis?

. NRL broadcast matches, cf AFL broadcast matches, attract older audiences ie AFL "skews young".
Do you dispute this- if so, on what basis?

If you do not dispute this, what are the logical implications for the quantum of NRL ratings in NSW & Qld. over the next 10-20 years? And RL Rights $, when ratings decline?

If you want to talk grassroots soccer shits over every one else.
The only thing "soccer shits over" is, for some players, on the grass when fearing/experiencing a (sometimes minor) contact.

Australia-wide, the Official Regd. FFA & AFL "participation" nos. for soccer & AF are very close now (in 2019, FFA c.1.93 m, AFL c.1.72m). Both nos. are very rubbery, lots of Gala Days, community events etc- but soccer is more dependent on those categories to boost its "participation" nos.

Soccer,, cf AF, has many advantages, re counting "participation" (apart from being a mon-contact sport- so 2 formats can be played by the same person a few days apart).
It is played for c. 46 weeks pa, in multiple formats- inc. indoor school & community futsal- & thus is FAR more likely to have the same player counted multiple times.
Many private schools also ban their students who play AF for the school from also playing club AF.

In 2019, & forever, the no. of official regd. AF club players exceed the no. of official, regd. soccer players in Aust.
Do you dispute this- if so, on what basis?

Furthermore, the FFFA counts its referees, coaches, & volunteers in its Official regd. total "participation" nos. of c.1.93m in 2019.
The AFL does not include these categories in its Official regd. total nos. of c.1.72m in 2019- if it did, the AFL nos. would easily surpass soccer.

Patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel so I think even you know you're up against it.

You have emigrated to Australia from the Britain. Many would consider it to be very inappropriate for you to be trolling Australian culture & AF- some would consider your disrespect is repugnant.

Do you believe that, generally speaking, British people are patriotic?
Do you believe people are entitled to feel proud of their cultural heritage?

Afl has very little heritage significance in Sydney BTW.

AF is the dominant sport in sthn. NSW & SW NSW ie Broken Hill district. It has recently had significant growth in all NSW & ACT.

In Sydney, GR Club & school comp. nos. are booming. In contrast, there has been a collapse in Greater Sydney (excluding the Penrith District RL comp.) of male club & school contact RL nos. The nos. for AF & RL in Greater Sydney are very close now- & AF is almost certain to overtake RL very soon.

In Sydney, AF has strong GR club & school nos. in the NS, ES, & inner WS- & is having, since 2012, significant growth in other parts of Greater Sydney.

Incidentally, when considering "Intangible Cultural Heritage", as defined by the UNESCO 2003 Convention, Listings for inclusion with UNESCO do not have to demonstrate that a majority, or even a large no., in a country must be adherents or practitioners etc.

eg UNESCO Listing "Craftsmanship Of Mechanical Watchmaking" Switzerland & France.
eg UNESCO Listing "Camel Racing" UAE Oman...& many others

Which version of 'the taxpayer' are you claiming to represent?

I have not claimed to represent any taxpayers.
I believe all govts., councils etc. in Australia should spend the taxpayers money wisely, & in the most efficient manner possible- to keep taxes low.

The Aust. govt also share this view- as I assume do all State govts. & Councils (at least in their public pronouncements).

"Lower Taxes For Hard Working Australians"
Re govt. spending in the Australian govts.' "Plans for a stronger economy, fiscal responsibility is a main principle to achieve lower tax for hard working Australians".

All good BUT you seem to dismiss the benefits of the expenditure, many of them very hard to put a value on.

What's happening with NRL crowds this season?
So far this weekend they have had crowds of 10,739 SCG 9142 Stadium Australia 5104 Stadium Australia and 4892 Central Coast Stadium. Is t it the weather or the big blowouts casing these low crowds?

A little over 4k for the W league grand final held in Sydney yesterday. The AFLW grand final this Saturday might get 10 times that.

Don't know. Has something happened in the world in past year which has caused ppl to be reluctant to gather in crowds?!

I think that was the crowd, not the TV ratings figures. Not sure what it rated, but it was less than 29k. Was it on FTA as well?

It was a genuine pub league goal that won it too.
Yep the 4k was the crowd number. It was on ABC TV as well but yeah dont know the rating figure.

1. This 7.4.21 article, by soccer author A. Deans, recounts the sad virtual demise of A League reporting on the MSM.
Only The Age & SMH still employ specialist soccer reporters, who also cover other sports now.

2. On the ABC TV "Offsiders" Program, 11.4.21, sports' reporter A. Nicholson said, paraphrasing, the W League has very little visibility in the MSM- soccer commentator S. Hill agreed.

The panel discussed the Matildas going down to Germany 5-2 overnight (at one stage 4-0).

Host K. Underwood said to S. Hill

"it's the women's game [Aust. female pro soccer] that is going to lead football (sic) in the next 3 years..." referring to the Matildas, in the women's soccer World Cup, held in Aust. & NZ in 2023.
S. Hill said "I agree".

(scroll to 11.4- then go to 8 mins.28 secs. - 9 mons.56 secs.)

Strewth.

whats your point???

You don't think the womens game won't lead soccers media coverage in the next 2-3 years, despite the fact that Sam Kerr is the biggest name in the sport from this country, that the Matildas are better than the men in terms of rankings and the small fact that the biggest event in womens soccer will be on this land in 2 years.

W-league is one thing, a-league is another. It is completely different to what will happen for a home-world cup in 2023. It is not a question of interest during the tournament. See Rugby World Cup in 2003. The question is, can soccer build on it.
Ok, 4k attendance is probably par for course for the W-League grand final.
yeah. 2019 for 6K, and that had Sam Kerr and the league was a lot healthier plus without the Covid issues. The league has been in better shape

Listening to the commentators of the w league GF broadcast they were raving how it was the climax of a sensational season.

perhaps. I must admit I haven't watched a min of w-league this year and they would know. Though, they might just be saying that.

But, and I am saying this as an outsider, after 2019, the w-league lost most of the big international players like Kerr, Carpenter and Foord IIRC. It isn't a big stretch to say that those losses would hurt the league's name recognition and more importantly, the standard of play.

Obviously the sporting public in Sydney don't agree by not turning up in decent numbers to the GF and I suggest the WWC Soccer with struggle to get decent crowds apart from matches featuring the Australian and maybe NZ teams and they better hope Australia is in the final!
