Thought it would have been a good week to give one of Chandler, Bowey or Laurie a game.

I think we're waiting to see how they perform on VFL level. Personally, I hope we see them soon on the main stage.

Exactly what I thought would happen.
Petty for May is good
Hibberd for Jetta great, not sure how anyone didn't see Jettas cooked.
Brown is the most like for like for Fritta we have.
I am very surprised, but very pleased, they have been proactive and didn't wait for Jetta to get cooked completely by a small forward before bringing him out.

I'm glad we aren't trying anything cute with selections. Like for like is good. This is a danger game, no need to be complacent about it.

As confident as I've been heading into a game this year. Wanted to say 10 goals +

Reckon Brown will have one of those games where he kicks 4 goals then gets dropped for the other Brown next week and is never seen in the side again.
Haha yeah he's quite a smart player, if we are playing well Brown will get on the end of a couple. I really like the selection, shows how serious we are taking it. Absolute best 22 each week.

I think there’s a nuance here, and they are going best 22 (23?) while adhering to the game plan and structure as the pre-requisite.

Fritsch out, Chandler in may have been “best 22” based on preseason and training form, but Chandler is so different to Fritsch it would’ve likely been very disruptive to do that and required multiple players to change their role to accomodate it.

Daw appears to be in really good form, but Petty is closer in style to May (and has also been in good form). If it was Jackson injured or suspended this week, Daw probably would’ve got the gig instead.

In the past I reckon it’s been bring in the form player, even if it’s not necessarily like for like, and shuffle the team around a bit. I prefer what this approach appears to be.

Edit: fix typo

Watch hawks get about 10 goals out the back tomorrow. out goes our no1 lockdown big and small defenders. Hibberd in I reckon will * us up unless he's been told not to attack as much. Otherwise we got Hunt Salem and Hibberd all trying to attack, Lever trying to guard space, a player who's played like 5 games down back and Tomlinson to guard the bigs. I know Hibberd is a good defender just reckon it's not as balanced now. I'm probably just worried we gonna lose how we lose most the time with the poxy out the back goals. hopefully I'm wrong and defense holds up

I'm totally quoting this tomorrow if we lose. I think you are forgetting which club you follow.

I don't get these feelings very often, take it to the bank. Last time I felt like this was against GWS when I said 5 goals +.

Jetta has been absolute dog s**t mate.

He has had 32 disposals for the season and 4 tackles. Complete liability in every area of defence.

Jetta has never been in the team for his touches. he's still above average for 1 on 1s and doing the s**t he needs to

Well he ain't cause he's been dropped. Hibberds a better one on one defender and 4 tackles for the season means he ain't stopping anyone on the ground either. He's cooked

I never said Hibberb wasn't a good defender actually said he was. Im just worried about our set up being too much on the attacking side and hawks finding open players on the turnover. I dont like the balance especially against Clarkson. Who's Levers Match up if he isn't on 1 of the 2 bigs? wouldn't think it'd be Breust or Wingard. Moore has been playing pretty well. if he is on 1 of the Bigs then Tomlinson doesn't have a Match up. It's got out the back goals all day written all over this. Maybe I dont want to believe we any good yet🤣🤣 Also it's my opinion so go * yourself im aloud to be worried without having to tick it off with you first

I totally understand where this sentiment comes from and I agree if Hibberd tries to play in 2017 vintage style - as great as he was that year - it could be a disaster.

He played the Lever interceptor role, mixed with the Hunt take things on with straight line speed role (although not as fast as Hunt clearly).

I don’t think Hibberd is physically up to trying to be the 2017 Hibberd anymore, so it’s probably moot.

I’m starting to get faith that there’s clarity within the team on what’s expected of them, and if Hibberd or any of the others stepped way out of line they would be brought back into line on game day quickly. We’ve seen the team get beaten for small opponent run on patches in each game this year, but the team hasn’t lose faith in their method and/or the coaches have made some small adjustments. The 4-0 record and 130+% speaks for itself.

On the Gus and Gawby podcast there was mention that every player has only a primary and secondary role to learn. For example Lever’s is backline and wing 😂. I think this concept is great as it means there’s more role specialisation and therefore better chance of role mastery. But they’ve also studied and trained another role so it retains some level of tactical game day flexibility too.

Hibberd should be well aware of how the backline is meant to function. I’d hope as a veteran he has the experience to play multiple sub roles within the backline structure, and the discipline to play the way he has been instructed against the Hawks.

It’s just s**t that our best small in Lockhart is working his way back still. He’s actually a more natural swap for Jetta than Hibb for mine.

I don't know why people are worried about too many changes. Two are forced and two are omitted. If May and Fritta weren't injured nobody would be complaining about Jetta and Sparrow coming out as they have both been under performing.

James Jordan can consider himself lucky. I reckon Sparrow has been better than him the past few weeks, even as a sub.

Watched some highlights of Petty playing in defence in the practice game vs Richmond last night and felt much better about things after it. He was pretty ******* good... (bowey is a ******* star too)

100% posted it at the time aswell. Petty was probably our best in the praccy and Bowey had AfL quality all over him. Had composure beyond his size and age.

Yeah the problem is he’s a tiny midget. At his size and weight he won’t be able to consistently stick tackles at the senior level.

Na, he's got class and is fierce for his size. Doesn't look out of place at all.

If Caleb Daniel can make it Bowey can too, he's got way more athleticism and similar skills.
