I’ll ask here because it’s probably more relevant here:
Who is the best James Bond and why is it Sean Connery?
Timothy Dalton was pretty damn good, very intense as James Bond.

The Living Daylights is a low key great movie

I’ve never watched all bond films in order - just seen scattered ones so doing that now. Just finished you only live twice and now up to the second bond - George Lazenby.

Hey Roddy
Found these on YouTube

If you watch the second video from 50mins onward it will show you the ride from Yarraman Station to Carrum, or you could cross the rail bridge and ride along the Eastlink trail towards Ringwood.

There are heaps of videos of bike trails in Melbourne, so worth a look

Thanks heaps for this mate - it's really helpful.

I made it to Yarraman over the weekend and couldn't work this out on the maps so just cycled back along the Djerring Trail. I'll give this a go next time, might go to Carrum then catch a train back from somewhere.

I'm keen to go up the Eastlink and then find a trail that connects me back to Caulfield.

Appreciate it!

Yawkey way

Connery because he was the best actor and a great fit for the role and had everything going for him in terms of when his movies were made.

I‘ve seen all the movies and I’d rate Daniel Craig as the next best, he has quite a bit of Jason Bourne thrown in but that’s what you get these days. Lazenby was pretty good in his one appearance, Roger Moore was just ok, he never really had the edge you need to play bond and I don’t rate the others at all.

The Eastlink trail has heaps of branches. I ended up riding to The Basin on the weekend from the Heatherton Road section of Eastlink.
If you get to Jells Park along the Eastlink trail then you will be able to get onto the Scotchman's Creek trail and make your way back to Caulfield.
The hill that takes you up to the Scotchman's creek trail at Jells Park is a monster though. Coming down that hill at break neck speed is insanely fun, so maybe try the ride in reverse order.

The first James Bond movie had been a real shoestring budget affair.
His first car , a Sunbeam Alpine ( true to the book, like Maxwell Smart's car but without the V8 engine ) didn't do to many stunts, since it was a hire car.

He drove a old Bentley in "From Russia with love ", also true to the book, despite the movie being set in a bit more modern times than the book.

I'm pretty sure when he got the Aston in Goldfinger, is was due to a publicity deal with the car company where, they got the car practically for free in exchange for featuring it.

The same filmmaker made "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" because it was written by the same Author and came with the package.

He just seemed cooler. Roger Moore was campy era Bond, Brosnan and Dalton were a bit dull and Daniel Craig looks like his face is made of concrete.

I had a look at this in reverse order and the Scotchmans Trail might need a bit of map assistance as it joins the roads at a few points, but it looks like a nice 50km-ish round trip.

Tooronga Road -> Gardiners Trail -> Scotchmans Trail -> Eastlink Trail -> Djerring Trail. Might need to build up a bit more fitness beforehand.....the 38km Yarraman round trip totally stuffed me and that is mostly flat!

Thanks again for this.

Basically mine as well, though I also felt Dalton was a better Bond than Moore and Moore just had better movies since he had more of them than Daltons 2 and s**t scripts.

Connery way out in front and Craig does well with as you say the Bourne forumlae of his set, Lazenby semeed more like if Rocky worked for the CIA, just seemed odd to me that he punched on so much.

Lazenby? I thought he was good but not as good as Connery. I’ve not seen the Roger Moore ones or the Dalton ones but Brosnan is ok I guess. You’re right that he is a bit dull.

Connery though. His first “Bond. James Bond” in Dr No and then “that’s a smith and Wesson .45 and you’ve had your six” are iconic moments. And I can’t decide if thunderball or Goldfinger is the best one so far.

I haven't watched them for years but when I was younger I didn't rate Lazenby. Might have to give him another go.

There's only one James Bond - no actually there's a lot more.

Peter Sellers, David Niven, Ursula Andrews, Woody Allen and few others are James Bond in the original Casino Royale - my favourite Bond film.

Still a lot of millions with DSL.

worth noting i was living in an apartment complex, wanted to get cable with another provider, couldn't because they had signed the apartment complex into a long term agreement. so we couldn't get the advantages of high-speed internet through time warner. this was a common occurrence.

my office got a GBPS connection for cheap as * though due to the MANs that are available

I've recently read quite a few of the Bond books and they gave me a different perspective of the Bond character. He seems to have more vulnerabilities in the books.
E.g. In the tarantula scene from Dr No, Bond holds his stomach the end of the ordeal. In the book it was a centerpede instead of a spider and he vomits violently after the ordeal, such was his fear.

Connery was my favourite Bond.
Roger Moore sucked IMHO

Interesting to note that Roald Dahl wrote the script for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and You Only Live Twice.

I’ve heard Roger Moore is regarded as the worst one.

Yeah that was quite interesting. You only live twice was great. Had one of the most interesting plots. Good song too. Probably my favourite title song so far.

Probably the funniest moment in Bond film history occurs from 2:20 of this video, when the gondola goes on land and there's a montage of the crowd who can't believe what they're seeing - and then there's that shot of the pigeon literally doing a double take like a cartoon character.

I liked him as Simon Templar in the Saint but never warmed to him as Bond. I prefer films made in the 60s rather than 70s, so maybe that is part of it.
Speaking of 1970s films, my favourite is The Godfather. It's almost a perfect film, except the fight scene between Sonny and Rizzi which is ordinary. It looks so fake but the rest of the movie is so good, I can ignore it.

The Godfather is great. Controversial, but I prefer the Godfather 2. Taxi Driver is a great 70s movie. Chinatown. The French Connection. Apocalypse Now. The Deer Hunter. Some memorable movies came out in the 70s.
