You're right he's not being infringed anymore than other key forwards. How often do we see one of Jonas or clurey holding onto a forward while the other takes the mark, everyteam does it that's why the job of our players is to win the ball on merit.

He's got the tools to be a star if he/the team uses them better, he's not Damon White ffs.

Mark. Kick. Goal. Outbody. Extract. That's what he can do well in theory.

No one is expecting him to take 20 marks a game Nick Riewoldt style, be able to hit up deep forwards with spearing kicks both sides of the body Tredders style, or kick extraordinary running goals like Buddy, but gee, you reckon he could bring his averages a bit closer to someone like Tex bloody Walker.

Dixons always engaged in contact and grabbing first hence why he doesn't get a free.

Someone needs to help Charlie with the mental side of his game. When he loses his cool he can no longer play. His problem is not ability or confidence it is actually his anger that gets the better of him

That's not how we structure up though is it, Charlie parks himself 20 to 35 metres out directly in front of goals taking all the leading lanes of our other forwards. By doing this he takes the ability of our mids to lower their eyes and hit a leading target away, which initiates a high bomb into the fifty where Charlie, because he positions himself in the middle of the fifty, has time to react and bring his group of defenders to the fall of the ball. Does he mark it in these instances? No! He runs under the ball allowing his man to take an easy mark or their smalls to clean up.

I blame our forward line woes on Charlie not for this game but for the last 5 years, yes our coaches must reap some of the criticism but they have tried many different looks around this guy as our centre piece Ryder, Dougal, Trengove, Butcher, Westhoff and a few others along the way but Dixon's performance has stayed fairly static apart from the first half of last year.

Also because our coaches/players are dumb. If Dixon has multiple players on him then target someone else. Opposition coaches are willing to put multiple guys on him, because they know Bassett / Hinkley are clueless. Neither have figured out if we don't target him most of the time, then he won't have so many around him all the time. Then ironically he becomes a better target, one to use when he's able to get away from his (single) opponent.

I have always wondered what our list would look like if we hadn't traded for Dixon and Ryder, it's funny because without these two Hinkley probably doesn't get renewed so even our coaching panel would be different.

Goldpass confirmed, different players and coaches have now admitted that he's been out of form 4 weeks out of 7. I mean does it even matter if he kicks 6 against the crows his issue is big games against top 6 clubs.

Lloyd had a crack at Dixon last night about how lack of goals he has kicked. He's half right he does need to kick more but Lloyd rarely got the ball 30m away from the goal line so he doesn't see how Dixon plays within our game plan.

At 33 seconds in he says - this is the only mark he took on the weekend - ie the mark early in the game when he went back and goaled.

Charlie took 4 marks, 3 were contested, and only Aliir took 3 contested marks, Clurey and Marshall 2 and 3 Port players and 5 crowies took 1. He had 8 score involvements, only Fantasia with 9 had more for both sides.

He is our kick in target so he is taking marks or going for marks up on the wing. Drawing 2 and 3 defenders to packs is helping Todd and Mitch be free/freer to take marks ala Mitch's mark in the 3rd quarter floating in front of the pack.

Then there is the work he does when the ball is on the ground, a left hand handball out of a pack to Marshall in the 2nd quarter who snapped on his left 30m out and in the 4th quarter the one handed on top of the ball groundball get I highlighted with screen shots in the Review thread, grabs the ball with his right, handballs with hs left to Marshall who puts a left foot pass to Raz who marks, goes back and goals. As I said in that post Charlie's baulk, aggression and ability to pick up the ball one handed and strength to wave it around and then dish it off to a teammate makes him potentially more dangerous when the ball is on the ground than in the air IMO. Matthew "get out of my goal square" Lloyd just doesn't see these sort of acts.

Big Dix should be kicking 50-60 goals in a full season but he does a lot more than just kick goals.






Big Dix starts the play of the day with a great contested mark on the wing. Jono Brown says its his 3rd of the night and on a wet night its worth like 6 or 7 in the dry.

How long can this guys form be ignored? Doesn't look remotely capable of getting separation and taking a mark. He needs to be dropped and held to account.
