IPL 2021 & 2022

I am pretty sure BCCI will try their best to finish IPL even if it means that cricketers have to play in PPE, underwater, Mars

Hearing that Aussie players will come here and then go back to Oz after a few weeks. Why not go to Maldives or SL? Why England? Anyways Indian players been allowed to leave.

A variety of reasons. A couple of the reasons I can think of are firstly it's probably alot easier to get a flight from the UK to Australia than it is from those countries even though it's further away. Secondly several of them including Maxwell and Christian have gigs in county cricket that were supposed to start straight after the IPL.

Given the IPL is the major cash cow for the BCCI and hence the ICC I still think they will try to finish the tournament in some fashion. The problem is went to schedule it with India having a packed itinerary for the rest of the year, touring England in a test series from July to September (which is an absolutely enourmous series for both sides - this won't be moved), following the T20 World Cup in November to November (which will almost certainly held in the UAE by this point).

A possible solution could be taking 2-3 weeks off now, and coming back and going straight to an extended final series with all the teams involved. This is still somewhat fair as all the teams have played each other once, the only double-up game was the last one played - Punjab v Delhi. You could play an extended final series with all 8 teams involved but weighted to favour the top teams to make the competition still somehwat fair.

What's he complaining for full stop! The "oh I want to go home" doesn't wash. It's very poor form especially if he had an ounce of a brain. No wonder he's being shown zero sympathy from the public. Just sit in the Maldives for 2 weeks then you can come home. No need to whinge! He sounds like a reality TV contestant not getting everything!
ScoMo has massively screwed up with this though, its one thing to pause international flights from India for 2 weeks, its another thing entirely to make that a criminal offence of up to 5 years in prison. The whole reason we have Hotel Quarantine is because we are not suppose to be allowed to ban citizens from re-entering the country ever. The government gave them clearance to travel there, to then turn around and say you face 5 years in prison for attempting to come home is outrageous.

On top of that, there's basically no other countries that the aussies in India can now travel to quarantine for 14 days before returning to Australia. Anyone coming from India (unless if you're a citizen of that country) to England/New Zealand/UAE/Bangladesh etc. are now also banned. From what I can see South Africa is the only cricket country left the Australian's could travel to and even that could change at any moment. The players are now stranded in India for the foreseeable future unless if exemptions from some country to house them can be granted.

The criminal offence stuff came from that idiot CMO - who is now trying to evade responsibility for it. He’s the one who predicted 150,000 deaths and 2 million cases, 14 months ago. It’s time the PM, and the Premiers, stopped handing the running of the country to these unelected scaremongering quacks masquerading as health experts.

You are literally in an Indian Premier League thread criticising the methodology of Australia, a country that handled it as well as anyone in the world.

Just cut it and take the hit. It’s a sport at the end of the day.

The next one will happen soon enough anyway. IPL barely seems to stop.

Sad it was called off, at least it gave the poor Indians something to watch while their country turns into a shambles.
Looking forward to all the pics from the living hell The Maldives are from Michael Slaters insta :)
What a moron.

I’m confused about your take on the CMO? Like...he’s the least independent Health Officer in this country? he’s just been Morrison’s lap dog since the beginning and would change his medical advice (ie. Morrison not needing to quarantine when Dutton got it when under the rules of the time he should’ve been so that ScoMo could still go to the NRL) to suit whatever the government needed.

Unlike the state CMOs?

those predictions of mass cases etc were if we didn't take action to slow the spread of the virus. and guess what we did? we effectively eliminated the virus in this country

his whinge is the fact that Australia has made it illegal for it's own citizens to return, and blocked flights from India, when they seemingly never thought about to doing it to the likes of the US/UK. he hasn't whinged about having to do quarantine on his return to Australia, if you gave Slater his choice of places to be right now, it'd be in hotel quarantine somewhere in Australia

That's because UK people weren't bringing in large numbers of infections per flight, like unfortunately the people on flights from India were, increasingly.

If you can guarantee he won’t bring the Indian style of infection into Australia I’m all ears. Until that time I’m happy with this ruling.

That's simply not true.

Just 116 people with COVID in Australia right now who contracted it overseas.

This moral panic arose because a bloke went to India to get married and brought it back with him, and then infected someone else. And Mark McGowan wanted to blame it on the feds rather than his own terrible hotel quarantine system.

116 in the last 7 days but 250 in total. 60 in hospital.

Most of them are a hell of a lot better than him yes. You want your Chief Health Officer to be as independent as possible and solely focus on what’s the best course of action for public health in their respective states, and then it’s up to the Premiers to weigh that advice against the economic impacts. And I’d say nearly all of them are doing exactly that.

The premiers have been over reactive at times with some snap lockdowns, but I’d much rather that than them be under reactive and then have a massive spike of cases/deaths which leads to much longer periods of lockdowns anyways

When’s the next long weekend, or special occasion warranting gift-giving and socialising and being with loved ones, such as Moth.... oh, wait...

Less than 250 people in the whole country with COVID proves your assertion that there were large numbers of infectious people on flights from India is incorrect. If there were large numbers coming in, the number of active cases would be way higher.

I’m being genuine here, I don’t actually know what you mean by this?
Isn’t it time for another lockdown, somewhere? Pretty much every long weekend or holiday has been ruined by a premier jumping at shadows. Will we get away with this Mother’s Day ? Still 3 days to go...
