Hello everyone,

I was - and still am - very upset by this, but telling you all to grow up wasn’t the right thing to do

i apologise , esp to FR0GGY

please remember, this is how it starts, “it’s all a game”
.
next thing you know, your country is razed, half your family is dead, and you grow up on the other side of the world. Australia is truly the lucky country, but it won’t stay that way without vigilance
All good mate! Appreciate the apology!

750k per year seems cheap, but to age 33 is a long time, I guess that’s the trade off and worth the risk.

He is a serious footballer just throw him forward if he starts to slow down a bit near the end of his contract. Love how he hasn’t chased the money, he still gets paid well and they can keep the group together.

Seems like a few posts in the port preview thread been deleted, but to continue the theory that there is NO points deduction for Port to wear the prison bars.

These are the AFL Regulations for 2021. They are written for a specific reason. To be followed.

Section 4.4
4.4 Wearing of the Uniform (a) The uniform to be worn by a Club during the Home and Away Matches shall be as directed by the Executive General Manager Football or their appointee. Sanction: Up to 20 Units for each Player wearing an incorrect uniform, payable by the Player’s Club

Where is it mentioned that a club wearing an incorrect uniform has a sanction of points deduction?

Either - Kochie is lying, there has been no mention of a points deduction; or Gill/the Commission has made a baseless threat, as Port could argue that per the Regulations, the only sanction is a financial one.

But that doesn't suit Port's agenda. If Kochie says there's a points deduction, well that's that. They're not going to risk losing premiership points. I remember the interview where Kochie stated the points deduction. It was with Will & Pembo (guys, we know you read this board, so follow this up, eh?) Kochie said they'd be willing to pay the fine, but its a points deduction so therefore they can't do anything.

Bull and s**t. Its a financial sanction only as the Regulations say. Ask Gill if its a points deduction. He'll either say no, or if he says yes ask why the Regulations only impose a financial sanction.

Port just can't afford to pay the financial penalty so are making up a points penalty,

20 units per player, 1 unit being $1000, so $460,000 for the entire squad

Of course they can't afford it if that's the case. Pure bullshit from Kochie they could pay it

Petracca has signed on until 2029 with the Dees, bloke is a gun I’d be very happy with that.
Glory be, Pies would have been targeting him too.

The rumour was they were looking at him, hence the salary dump last year.

$6M+ for Petracca is massive, in a COVID world he did well, sure he could have got the same or more elsewhere but to lock this in sets up his life without that risk factor of waiting till the end of this year.

Some players lost massively dollars last year by delaying contract negotiations.

Did the AFL end up buying pandemic insurance for future years yet? Much like Wimbledon who lost no money because they had insurance or did it work out to be too expensive annually?

I think the Units thing is part of a bigger penalty system the AFL can use to impose penalties - a lot of the rules use Units to establish the seriousness of infractions, and then they come up with whatever penalties they think appropriate.

From 2019 AFL rules, there are these fragments:

2. Powers, Conduct and Sanction
2.1 Powers of the Commission and General Counsel
... (a) Either or both the Commission and the General Counsel shall, in furtherance
and not in limitation of any other power conferred upon them by the AFL Rules
and Regulations, have the power in their absolute discretion:
....... (iv) Subject to Rule 2.2, to impose any sanction on any Person contravening
the AFL Rules and Regulations on any terms or conditions seen fit or to
otherwise deal with such matter in any manner they in their absolute
discretion think fit, including:
........... (G) declare, in respect of a Club, the loss of or ineligibility to receive
Premiership Points for past or future Matches;

Very much a risk vs reward proposition for him. Could he get more money by opting for shorter term deals and maintaining his form? Probably. But what if his form dips? What if he does an injury tomorrow and never plays again?

$6M is set up for life kind of money. And if he does play such high quality footy that he could have perhaps earned more, he'll get bucketloads through sponsorship and the like anyway.

Good on him. He's a gun and he's earned it.

Wins may be a part of it, but I think the rabid enthusiasm to tear down Collingwood relates more to the off-field stuff, similar to our "camp" period.

As long as there's a corresponding performance drop off you get a supercharged version. We'll pick up some press if we're 3:10 with a s**t % because it's a continuation of the same s**t combined with a new coach. One or 2 hacks will pen a 'thoughtful' article.

Kids do it all the time in photos now thinking it's the equivalent of doing something like bunny ears, and have for years and years

I doubt knowledge of its other meaning is too widespread yet. Heck Jamaine Jones didn't know. People who are right up to date with current affairs would know but no one else would

People who outrage as a second job would know. I didn't know either alternate meaning.
