He's a gun and they had to do it, but that's a long contract for someone that has done an ACL in the past and explosiveness is a big part of his game. Culd be finished halfway through that contract.

32 year old Christian Petracca somewhere on the Puopolo-AblettJr matrix as a small forward would still be useful, though probably not at 900k per year.

Can't believe some of the responses on here. Take a look at the terms, we've clearly gone for a longer term deal on less dollars, who knows what the salary cap will look like in 3 years let alone 8? Absolutely stoked with this, first Oliver, then Salem now Petracca and he's signed a year early to boot so the club doesn't have to deal with any "will he, won't he" BS. Didn't want to eat up too much cap either, this guy wants flags and knows holding the club to ransom to get the biggest contract possible will not help that.
Youre misreading the sentiment.

This is a ridiculously good deal for the dees. Signed your best player for a contract that is long but will look cheap in a few years with increased salary caps.

Very generous and some would argue idiotic for trac. Good on the dees though. absolute bargain - would be stoked if we did the same for walsh

Utterly bizarre!

This is like someone marrying their first root at 17!

Madness. A decision he'll regret for the rest of his life.

lol...you really are a nuffy.

Do you realise how well placed he is to invest his income with a stupendously secure contract like that?

Do you understand that he can go to a bank soon and borrow a #### load of money to invest in property and build a portfolio that will give him great returns in years to come?

He should sit down and talk to Dusty in regards to what to do with his cash.

What’s wonderful about the deal, unlike McGuire who sold the family silver to get Beams etc we still have room to keep out good younguns like Weidmean , Oliver and Jackson etc.
Kudos to Petracca as he could have gone harder.

edited for accuracy.

Interesting move for both parties.

Surprised he didn't extend to the end of 2023/24. That way he'd 27/28 and still a restricted free agent.

I am glad he is signing it at 25 after an excellent season and excellent start to this one. Too much money in the AFL goes to young players who haven't proven themselves.

Like 24/25 year olds that get 5 year deals on 800k based on sweet #### all other than they run fast.

Dylan Shiel a prime example.

Dylan Shiel played 135 games by the time he joined Essendon. He was and is a pretty good player. Maybe not worth the price paid but a known quantity.

It's players 2 or 3 seasons in who are miles off their peak getting massive contracts that shits me.

Dylan had never peaked.

We got him expecting a peak performance boost after pretty standard, ordinary games for Giants.

Petracca has shown much more in his few years at MFC. The bloke is a gliding rolls Royce of class, strength and skill who will only get better and remain consistent for years to follow I think.

As opposed to getting twice as much?
