Dustin Fletcher easily. It would have been Longy for many reasons but I think his hit on Symonds in the GF has left a bad taste in enough people's mouths to take the shine off. Could have killed him.

Fletcher was a genuine star player. He is the best player Essendon had since 1990. Even if most of you are too stupid to realise it. He changed the game. The perfect modern fullback is modelled off him. Except unlike them, he could keep a rampaging Ablett Snr to 5 goals at Kadina park while he was still doing year 12. 93 was an amazing year for Yablett, averaging 7.29 goals per game and only giving off 13 handbells for the entire season.

When Essendon won the premiership with a percentage of 160. How the F does a fullback win a Criton during a year like that?

When Essendon went on to be a side with a clutch of genuine stars carrying a bunch of hacks 02-05 they hit a few snags as the stars all started missing games with injuries. The statistical correlation between Fletcher playing and Essendon winning was higher than Hird, Lloyd or Lucas.

He then played until he was 40 showing everyone how good he was by competing as well as anyone when he was well past his prime, because his prime was that ******* good going at 80% still made him a good player.

Having Fletcher in the side was like having a longbow in the early middle ages. Which is appropriate considering where the name Fletcher comes from.

Being the best player Essendon had for a few decades SHOULD make him a favourite among bomber fans. The fact that he kept playing as an old man and was a pretty shy fella ... plus his barrels should make him a loveable player to all AFL fans.

Hiding and not answering his phone when we were thinking of trading him the first time (Caddy deal from memory?), sticking with us the 2nd time when he had the Ross Lyon Fremantle offer to go home, match winning cameos forward and now 3rd in the Coleman at age 32 when he'd been written off by a lot of people. Id love it if he somehow was able to play in a winning final

We'll be winning the flag in 2023. Hope he's playing on as a 35 year old ... it's not like he can lose any more pace!

It’s hard to pick a favourite, almost impossible, one who didn’t make the list was Merv Neagle. Watson was favourite for the Brownlow one year, ‘80, or ‘82 and Merv nearly won it !.
He had the lot, extremely skilled, hard as ******* nails , first in to protect a mate, kissed the Arden street fence one day and lost most of his teeth. He had swagger,SWAGGER.

I cried when he left for Sydney and couldn’t believe it when I heard he’d died in a truck accident. An unsung hero for Essendon, one of our best ever. Easily.
