No he really wouldn't.

You don't watch us play at all do you.....
It doesn't really matter though, does it? If they ever went head-to-head in an actual game... Fog would be forced to give up, bending over and sucking in the big ones, half way through the 2nd quarter, while Lynch was still running strong late in the 4th.

Moot point now though, given that Lynch is MIA for the next 2 months due to injury.

Looking at the changes they've made...

IN: Sloane
OUT: Hately
Good change, which materially improves the side. There's a school of thought that Hately deserved more than 2 games - but he'd done SFA in those 2 game, and was the obvious candidate to make way for Sloane. Sloane is our Captain, and was our 2nd best player prior to injury (Tex was #1). His return, as soon as passed fit, was a no-brainer. Sloane's absence cost us wins over both Freo & Hawthorn, and he will be welcomed back with open arms.

IN: Fogarty
OUT: McAdam
This one feels like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. We've replaced one player who doesn't get enough of it, with another who doesn't get enough of it. McAdam definitely deserved to be dropped, so there's no argument there. However, replacing him with Fogarty leaves us with an incredibly tall & slow forward line, in a game where conditions are not expected to favour the talls. In theory, McAdam should have a significant pace & defensive advantage over Fogarty, but we haven't seen any signs of it this season, so I guess you'd call this a nil-all draw.

IN: Brown
OUT: McPherson
Good change. McPherson has been performing poorly for several weeks, and probably needs a rest. Brown is our senior small defender, and comes straight back into the side after injury.

IN: Hamill
OUT: Murray
Bringing Hamill straight back in is definitely a good thing. Dropping Murray, on the other hand, is a serious WTF moment. Why TF are they dropping Murray, instead of Mackay? Yes, Mackay had a good game last week, and was easily one of our best players - but retaining him means going back to a 1x KPD structure, against a team with 3x genuine KPF options. All I can say is that the weather better be pissing down rain, preventing Port's taller forwards from holding onto their marks.

How far do you think new church is off

Whilst I'm not averse to giving Newchurch 2-3 games this year to see if his abilities translate better to AFL, he needs to work on body contact and second and third efforts...if he gets those two bits up to standard he will be a decent player. At the moment though he still has much to work on, which isn't a surprise given no team took him in either draft last year.

Lynch would be out for three months after the first physical contest, and you'd be back where posting about Fogarty being too big instead.

Could hatley have played forward with some bursts in the midfield ?
What's the better option - trialling a kid in the forward line, after they fail in midfield; or, keeping the underperforming small forward, who at least knows how to play as a small forward?

I get that Rowe isn't performing, but Hately hasn't been any better. There's not a lot of point in shuffling the team around, in order to keep an underperforming player in the team (even ahead of another under performing player).

Why did they recruit McAsey then?

Because they thought McAsey was that guy. Got to give credit to Butts here. Saw an opportunity and has ran with it.

I'm just shocked we didn't go for Worrell, seeing having another good interceptor would be more than handy.

You are so correct but we need to see what hatley can do otherwise why recurit him. There is no need to play him in the SANFL

We have always yo-yoed young players in and out of the team.

This week Hately and Murray have copped it. Last week it was Fogarty (who is now yo-yoed back in). Will keep happening.

Giving players a block of games in a rebuild is apparently beyond the capabilities of the club

It’s wrong in my opinion what could hately have done last week . Du think that the plan is to get him back in if we get smashed by port

Lack of competition for his position. The only other alternative in the SANFL is Newchurch, who has the same weaknesses as Rowe - only worse.
Why should it be a like for like swap?

Why do we need to play 3 small forwards?

Why not play 2 small forwards and and bring in an extra mid?

Sloane, Berry and Schoenberg can all push forward

He'll get his opportunities, without needing to create them in positions he's never played before. He's only 1 deep at the moment as injury cover (2 deep when Crouch returns). That's close enough to the head of the queue that he should play a few more games before the end of the season.

We've already dropped McAdam this week, and replaced him with Fogarty - so that's one less small forward in the equation.
