Sorry but that’s a haaaaaaaaaard pass on him. We got mckernan Wood and Hunter this year and they were all dumped by bottom eight clubs from last year.

I don’t mind him. Far from the worst tall out there and just about the only gettable one with decent experience.

He doesn't play well as the main tall forward and frustrates Pies fans. If he was a predominant ruckman with a rests up forward I think he could be used better. I doubt he'd cost anything either. Just about delisted if they drop to bottom 4.

Agree a second big KPD / tall lockdown defender to take the big boys is our most glaring need.

Love Jake. But something is up there. Wilkie isn’t big enough. Battle we seem determined to play anywhere but a KPP. Joyce is very hmmm. Highmore: see Wilkie. Clav is on the rookie list for a reason. Frawley is a very short term fix.

So had a look through the other lists to see what might be gettable. Younger players I would love like Butts, Payne, Logue, Sam Taylor or Balta, are all contracted. Cant see any leaving.

Moore is an RFA at the end of next year and is the absolute dream. But it wont happen! In hindsight, Tom McDonald (as a defender) might have been a good option. Melbourne couldn’t give him away last year. Now he is flying. Ooops!

Looking through those who might be gettable at the end of the year, I can see two OOC younger players that might fit.

Ben McKay is OOC. Could have a pick at the Kangas carcass. They can offer better $$, best 22 football and long term security though. Would certainly ask the question, but would be surprised if that was a yes. Could also be Hugh Goddard Mk2.

Brander OOC. Maybe try and turn him into a defender? Would 1000% look at that!

Other option is to look short term. Can see 3 options here.

Cale Hooker and Robbie Tarrant are UFA. Either one could be a short term fix for a few years. Tarrant in particular could be sold the ‘finals’ pitch.

Rory Thompson is also contracted by GC until 23. Maybe a salary dump option if they want to pay their kids??

Honestly, the best defender I can find who is not best 22 every week, is probably Carlisle!

Unless I am missing someone, think we need to look at the draft here.

I'm a fan of Jake, but tbh if he's not gonna be a CHB then I'd let him get on with lyf post footy after this season. I'm saddened it's ended up like this for him..

In all likelihood he won’t get offered another contract after this year going by the current vibe.

To be fair it's going to be hard to develop young players in a team that's getting belted week in and week out. Could still come good.

He was around a winning culture for his first 2 years, before getting cut. Norf threw him a lifeline as there was little interest. Everything I've seen on the field says lack of talent vs untapped potential. But sure, there's always next year to 'come good'.

I know people at North rate him in defence. He's been disappointing in that he was recruited as a high risk high reward Dangerfield type of mid forward but he's meant to be going okay down back. I haven't watched enough North games to give a strong option of my own. They are so bad to watch I can't be bothered watching anything but snippets.

I'm not aware of that, but it wouldn't surprise me.
He's a Sunshine coast boy and came through the Lions academy so would be pretty loyal to the club.
However as a 3rd stringer l don't imagine his contract would be close to what we could offer, plus he would get to play each week.
Queenslanders don't like the cold though..

I saw him play in about round 2, he was very good, looks a really smart player with really good disposal. Always kicked to 10 meters out in front of the leading forwards so that the defenders didn't get a sniff. Lots of wheel arounds in traffic and perfect passes with no time to work in. I was suitably impressed, deserves another crack at AFL IMO.

Now we’re using the noodle.. back-up ruck resting forward giving King a chop out. Durable and could easily play another 3yrs. Costs nothing at all. Salary cheap as chips.

We are apparently paying him 700-750k now and I don’t think I’d want him on that if Steele is rumoured to be on 650k and out of contract end of next year.

You also have to way up how this season goes now we don’t have Jones And Gresh in the guts. 4-4 and highly likely to now be 4-6 in the next fortnight. We maybe win 1-3 more from the year looking at that run home without Gresh or Jones + Marshall carrying his injury and the current guys out injured.

So it comes down to we get pick 5. Is pick 6 compo enough for JB?

Would love to keep Billings, is the type of player that steadies a team when things aren't working. Last game for instance, we would have been in a lot of trouble in the firsts half if not for Billings stadiness.

If he goes for 750k a year to North that is surely a Band 1 compo, If we have say pick 5 and get pick 6, use 6 and our old mate a future second on Taranto and keep 5 for a top 5 kid.

Sounds ideal. We need to improve our midfield stocks first. Let GC develop him for another year before we hopefully get him, as long as he wants to come. We also need to improve our forward 50 entries. We can barely kick to the advantage of one king instead of two
