The next righteous LNP mission: Let's gut the NDIS

Talking to someone in the taxi industry - transport is gobbling up a lot of money. Some people spending thousands a week on taxis.

I don't know if that is perfectly reasonable for them in their circumstances, but it is one of those numbers that alarms you when you first hear it.

transport was only 4% of the spend last year

Transport is a chronic problem right across the health sector. Insane amounts of money get spent moving patients and healthcare workers around.

Taxi companies and community transport organisations make a fortune ferrying people a few kilometres because the only other option is green and red ambulances.

Someone who comes up with a way to safely and easily Uberise health transport will make a fortune.

Politically, given taxis are getting screwed by Uber, it makes sense to spread the love.

there is one major restrictor on this.

Uber already has specialized services for people with disabilities. To receive these jobs, the driver has to meet certain ratings, and has to complete a online test. the issue is, drivers.

unless things have changed in recent years, you dont get extra money for these jobs. Yet they are more time consuming (there are strict rules on managing the pick up and drop off). Uber drivers are very transactional, and tend to avoid any job that has them on dead time.

then there is the cars. taxi fleets have invested in specialist vehicles to lock down wheelchairs and mobility units. its unrealistic that an uber driver will have the coin to mod their care to allow this.

anecdotally, there is also a security issue. taxi drivers for disability work have specialist training (much more than uber drivers). they have wwc checks (most uber drivers dont). They often can charge a higher tariff to compensate for all of this (and the additional oversight).

fwiw much of transport isnt taxi's. most is NFP community buses and commercial bus routes (ie for schools or Aust Disability Employment enterprises)

Well, that’s interesting

“Now it turns out that has just been pearl-clutching kabuki theatre when they knew all along the NDIS is tracking just as predicted,” Mr Shorten said.

“The Liberals knew this when they ripped $4.6 billion dollars out of the scheme calling it an underspend. And they know it now as they hype fake blowouts to justify further cuts and privatisation through compulsory independent assessments.”

Bro, if you do everything for them they will never get up out of that wheel chair and get ahead in life. It's tough love.

Maybe a stint in some sort of Army Cadets scheme will get them moving.
"Work for the NDIS".
Liberal policy about an hour after they get re-elected, if that happens.

These pigs will keep trying, but mercifully, it appears independent assessments are dead for now.

She must really dislike public servants if she thinks they're unable to complete assessments which they are qualified to make. I suppose she already thinks they're lying cows.

Whilst I don’t support ‘gutting the NDIS’, the fact remains that the scheme is bleeding money at a rate of knots - partially thanks to the fact that Labor never bothered to properly fund it when they set it up.

As far as I’m concerned ALP and Greens gave up any right to criticise cuts to the NDIS when they blocked the Medicare levy increase that was designed to fund it.
We could always, you know, not give 30 billion to corporates who killed the pig in 20/21 and then supposing we had, claw it back?

Theres a year and a half's ndis paid for.

Then theres the mrrt super tax that would have been bringing in a few bob.

Cutting corporate tax is not optional, we are not competitive with the rest of the OECD

The MRRT was a dog, maybe if Gillard and Swan weren’t so gutless it may have raised some cash, but ditching the bastardised tax we ended up with was no loss

Right now it would be raking in coin.

<<<
A total of $22.5 billion was expected to have been raised over the first four years of the tax,[29] which would have been spent on pensions, tax cuts for small businesses and infrastructure projects, particularly in Queensland and Western Australia.[2]>>>

And i wasnt ralking about corporate tax i was talking about the jobkeeper 30 odd billion that was overpaid to businesses that the government never clawed back.

Labor replacing Liberal stooges with Labor stooges. Should see things turn around !
Nonsense!
An inanimate rock would better than the thieves the Libs installed.
I look forward to the people I personally know that were destroyed and distraught by the conservatives, given the dignity, help and funds to live their lives more appropriately!!
“Sit down boofhead”.

you think a paralyzed person being told they have to prove they are still paralyzed to maintain funding supports is a sign of a well run NDIA?

if so, you're burying the lead. who would bother scamming the NDIA when they have found a cure of being paralyzed?

Or those who suffer from rare and yet to be diagnosed conditions getting kicked to the curb because of the opinions of a bureaucrat rather than a doctor.

Look, quite possibly. But I have more faith than the LNP. LNP approach to everything including the NDIS is the same.

Can we sell it for cheap or use it to fill our mate’s coffers with billions in taxpayer dollars?

If so, great. If not, we’re going to murder it.
