Hopefully we now get rid of some of our shockingly bad signings, Kachunga for one.

Fresh start we can hope. Clean out a lot of the squad, offload our massive contracts and rebuild our financial position.

If it makes you feel any better League One can be a really enjoyable season. Especially for you with the fans back, you and Sunderland (presuming they don't go up) should romp it.

So long as we don't get stuck down there. It's a mix of down-on-their-luck biggish clubs and minnows. Not looking forward to Burton beating up on us again.

Some solace that our fellow South Yorkshiremen in United and now Barnsley have fairly quickly springboarded from there into Championship promotion places.

Job done. Fantastic result overnight. Another visit to a place we’ve never played at before - Crawley, but we smash them 4-1 and secure promotion.
14 years ago we finish 6th in the EPL and are playing in Europe.........
Then broke, three relegations, transfer embargoes, points deductions, winding up orders, we even cancelled a game last year as we didn’t have enough players after a walkout over unpaid wages and copped a massive fine for that.
But at last some good news.
League One here we come, but on a different trajectory. The gloom is over.

FWIW, Wycombe's owner is a trial lawyer in the US. He won't give a s**t about the optics - if he thinks there's a chance that the points deduction should be this season, he'll go for it.

The EFL has won its appeal to find Derby County in breach of financial fair play rules, meaning Wayne Rooney’s club could yet be relegated from the Championship to League One, The Athletic understands.

Derby drew 3-3 at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday to remain in the Championship by a single point.

An independent panel will now decide on what punishment should be imposed on Derby for breaking FFP rules. Derby could be fined or hit with a points penalty, which could relegate them to League One for the 2021-22 season instead of Wycombe Wanderers.

What has happened?

The EFL has won its appeal to find Derby in breach of FFP rules.

The sanction for breaking these rules has not been decided yet, but the EFL wants the punishment to be applied this season.

There is a precedent for this: Macclesfield Town were relegated to the National League after the EFL won an appeal to apply a points deduction at the end of last season rather than the start of this one. The Cheshire club then went out of business.

Furthermore, Sheffield Wednesday started this season on minus 12 points for breaching FFP rules over the same period as Derby. They managed to halve that sanction on appeal but the six-point hit saw them finish three points below Derby in last place.

Any points deduction imposed on Derby totalling more than a single point would send them into the bottom three and relegate them from the Championship.

What happens next?

The Athletic understands Derby will fight when the sanction is applied. The EFL is also running out of time to have a punishment imposed on the club this season.

Instead, sanctions could be applied to Derby’s 2021-22 campaign.

But the publication of the appeal verdict is understood to be imminent.

As reported by The Athletic, Wycombe Wanderers are considering the option of legal action to send Derby County down to League One instead of them.

“We have an obligation to our fans, players and coaches to look at everything and go from there,” Rob Couhig, owner of Wycombe, told The Athletic after Saturday's match.

What were the charges against Derby?

Derby were charged in January 2020 with two breaches of the EFL’s FFP rules.

The first was that they had exceeded the league's cap on financial losses with the £81 million sale of Pride Park to a company set up by club owner Mel Morris in 2018.

The second charge related to how the club was recording the value of its players, an accountancy practice known as amortisation. The EFL claimed the club changed its method to gain more control of their amortisation costs, but did not inform the league of this change.

In August, Derby were cleared of the first charge and only mildly reprimanded for not being entirely transparent with the league about their amortisation method.

The initial findings meant Derby avoided a points deduction and fine, which would have come into play for 2020-21 Championship season.

The EFL, however, appealed against the amortisation part of the verdict in September.

Getting this overturned on appeal would be considered a big win for the EFL.
