Injury Injuries 2021

Slightly off topic, but once Williams is available, it'll be interesting to see who makes way. . On the weekend our 7 defenders were Keath, Cordy, Wood, Crozier, Duryea, Dale and Daniel. Hard to leave any out on grounds of quality, form and structural necessity.

‘We could play Williams in Dunkley spot in the middle.

I always believed Bailey would go back to the midfield once he matures.

Williams should be straight back in, Gards may need a VFL hit out prior to his senior return though given he has been out a little longer.
Yeah, I reckon you're right. It will be cruel to have Gardner return immediately and be expected to shoulder the load.

Matures body wise or as a footballer?

He would be a damaging player as a midfielder

Nah, I think he’ll be right to come straight back in and won’t stink the joint out

At least Williams should be back in a week or two and be ready to slot back into the team; Gardner, McLean and Richards should also all be back by the bye. Bring Gardner back in and give McLean and Richards a few weeks to find some touch in the VFL.

Hunter had surgery today. Stabilizing a fracture in his hand. No word re timeframe.

EDIT - Stevo said he hasn’t been ruled out of this weekends match yet ….

From club website:

Lachie Hunter has had surgery on a hand injury sustained in Sunday’s win against Carlton.

Scans post-game confirmed he did have a fracture in one of the small bones in his hand.

Surgery was required to stabilise the fracture, with that procedure completed today.

Hunter’s return to play timeline will be confirmed over the coming days.

Seen the latest update on the injury list, but no Will Hayes on it. Didn't play VFL, not an emergency and not injured?? Anyone know what happened there?

He would be mad if he played. What point? Allow it to heal properly. And it gives those on the outer a chance to prove themselves and have experience if this happens in finals.

Richards is a concern as it doesn't appear to be coming down much

Arguably 7 of our best 22 haven’t been playing.
Arguably up to 8. On last weekend's selected side:

Gardner in for Cordy
Williams in for Khamis
Martin in for Sweet
Dunkley in for Lipinski
English in for Hannan

That's at minimum 5 of our best 22. Then McLean, Richards and Vandermeer should all be in the mix somewhere, bringing the number up to 8, although it's unclear who exactly they'd be pushing out. At a guess, maybe McNeil, JJ and Scott?

Providing we don’t have any unknown injuries the list should look better this week given Marra, English, Hunter and Gardner should be available (hopefully).

Wood will be a hard one to replace, hopefully it’s only 3 weeks and we get him back post bye but given his history that seems unlikely.

Yeah we’ve done well to get through the worst of it while still winning, from here on McLean, Wood, Dunks, Martin, VDM is relatively manageable.
