The reason he’s picked is because he has a monster tank. Nothing else. Ruck craft eludes his astrophysicist intelligence. We are going with a guy that can get to every stopage. Not a guy who has craft in ruck. And nobody else on our list can match the output.
You make more money doing footballs than a Dr Brian Cox like brainiac. He gonna do that.

He's still getting to contests ok.

The issue is he loses just about every one. Or if he doesn't lose it, he does something clumsy that results in a turnover and an opposition goal.

Yes, that is exactly the issue. We got a guy that can only do half a thing. The clumsy ends up with a massive turnover or falling over and doing himself or the oppo a mischeif. Our ruck coach has only taught him how to get to every contest. Now he has to teach him how to coordinate with mids and win some. Make us 15 to 20 percent more effective

If the next month passes and Ladhams is still rucking away for Port relieving Lycett, we'd be mad not to look across town and grab tempt Sam Hayes to leave. Miles better than the last 'ruck' we recruited from them. Great mark, excellent tap. Been in the system 4 years and somehow not getting a game in favour of one of the dumbest footballers to ever play the game in Ladhams. At least as a junior also looked reasonable forward, so no reason to think he couldn't co-exist with ROB if the latter found his mojo again.

Otherwise Naismith from Sydney, Fort from Geelong, Reeves from the Hawks, Briggs from GWS and Coleman-Jones from Richmond are all third or fourth in line at their current clubs but would probably be happier to be second in line with a real shot at the mantle. The latter two are versatile, so could co-exist with ROB too. And all are miles ahead of Billy or Strachan.

What's certain is the absolute lack of quality ruck depth means we're wedged a bit with ROB here. Needs a circuit breaker and/or better in game support, but can't really get either. Need to provide him with some support and competition.

Vader says we dont need to draft a ruckman. ROB has a 5-6 year shelf life and we can count on everything remaining static.
Still feeling good about that call chief?

Sam Hayes who's just signed a new contract with our new rivals ?? There's more chance of me playing for the Crows next season.

If we drop him, then what ??

Do we keep Frampton in and say "Here's a chance, just clear the space for our midfielders and run til you drop" or do we give Strachan 3 weeks to show if he's got anything. I doubt he does, but there's not much else.

We were carrying an extra tall due to the structure we wanted..... Now it's because our lead ruck has lost all form.

Playing terribly.

He and Keays are two players that are the same... elite effort but poor skills and no football smarts. They have made it into an AFL 22 but its a bottom side’s 22. They wouldnt be playing in the 22 if it they were on the list of a finals contending side.

But we’ll continue to persist with them because we havent any other options at the moment..

End of year we hopefully use our first pick on a classy young mid and we somehow need to find another ruckman. The elite mid we pick up cannot be left to “develop” in that rubbish SANFL league.

Reckon we’d need to drop rob to give anyone hope that if they came here they are a shot.
If he doesn’t get dropped soon he’ll never be dropped.

What has happened to this guy? He's giving us nothing at the moment. Has been destroyed by the likes of Lycett and Mumford and can't take a mark to save himself.

Needs a spell in the twos. Frampton or Strachan can't be any worse.
Strachan is worse. Frampton is Sanfl standard and should be traded asap. Trade in a better ruck end of year. ROB will get the message quite quickly.

Form is temprary, Class is permanent. ROB is a good ruckman, going through a patch of poor form, and I have every confidence that he'll turn it around.

Having a development ruckman on our list wouldn't make one iota of difference right now, given that we haven't even seen fit to drop him for Strachan, and our support rucks are barely getting any action either.

That ends in 2022, I think?

I'd assume that when Sydney came calling for him in the Aliir deal last year and Port refused to engage - with his consent, he was probably under the impression he'd get a fair crack at it. Clearly he's been stitched up - hopefully for his sake Port correct that this week or next.

Seeing the embarrassment of a ruck they put up in Ladhams last week might well change that. It's worth a shot - he's far too good not to be either in the bottom tier of first rucks or the top tier of second rucks in the league. Not third fiddle.

I don't reckon so. We can easily sell someone on 'the reason ROB hasn't been dropped is the reason we're trying to recruit you. The bloke waiting in the wings is so bloody bad we've had to persist. You can change that'

He's far far better than Ladhams..... But then again we keep playing a KPD short.

Teams make funny decisions

Bottom line is we need to find a mature age ruckman soon. ROB is serviceable at best in the ruck, he'll never be elite. If he's not taking marks around the ground filling in as he has done well in the last 2 years then he's a liability. Unfortunately our club has left us with zero ruck depth. We need to find some soon.

I've been extremely disappointed with Rob this year. He got a nice new contract and put the cue in the rack. Its almost Mackay-esque.

First thing I'd do if I was Nicks would be to draft or trade in a second ruck. We need to put real pressure on Rob to pull his finger out. Strachan isnt going to get it done. Too light, gets out-bodied too easily.
