News Buckley standing down; Robert Harvey interim coach for 2021

North can claim the credit in a roundabout way, McGuire came up with the inheritance scheme to keep Buckley from taking the North job.

I wish North won 2x flags like the last time Buckley knocked them back

French Open final

Ha ha

Spare me
Also forgot Euro 2020 is commencing on Friday as well. Massive oversight to not be included really in that list. Any of the major golf tournaments starting in the next 24 hrs?

Oh, without question. For a couple years there, they were unbeatable. They had a stretch from mid 2009 season to the end of the 2011 season where they went 55-11-2.

Geelong from 2007-2009 for comparison were 65-10.

Add 11-2 to start 2012 under Buckley and it's 66-13-2. Tremendous team Malthouse was able to put together. Should've won more than 1 premiership.

They were pretty young too, weren't they? I guess you're right about the deconstruction post-Malthouse. Definitely disappointing looking back.
After Malthouse left AA CHF Travis Cloke fell off a cliff and AA CHB Ben Reid spent 8 years injured 😂

The Brisbane Cup at Eagle Farm Saturday commands interest and canny play from Bucks to call it with so much interest focussed there

But that board have hunted him for months and now that it has finally happened they are all hurt and broken. I understand your point but its a little strange.
Buckley always had a large number of supporters on the board, the only posters that hurt from this are the ones that wanted him to stay.

Go look at the scores/margins St Kilda put up over 08-10 and you will see the "Ross Lyon = Ultra defensive" theory is patently false. Same with Freos peak.

When he had the players his style lead to some pretty great wins.

For whatever reason the players just couldn't execute in Grand Finals.

If the Pies (or Blues) buy in to what he is selling then they could get a few pretty good years out of both lists. Carlton in a better position to strike.

Not a long term sustainable style though so give him 6 years - 2 to train it, 2 to build on it, 2 to launch for a flag - Then move on.
In 2010 St Kilda were the lowest scoring top 8 side in the H+A season.

True. We played basically that whole season without Riewoldt though, so that will naturally have an impact on things. We still had an average winning margin of 6 goals though, hardly a 'defense at all costs' style that seems to be eternally stuck to Ross Lyon.

When he has good players, who totally buy in and execute, his system and style produces. A couple of better executed kicks he would be a multiple time premiership coach.

Both Collingwood and Carlton could do a lot worse that giving Ross the reigns for a while.

He gave good press conferences, but that’s about it. Bye, Bucks.
