With Kent’s ongoing concussion issues he may sadly join Paddy & Koby with a premature retirement.

I don’t rate him beyond depth but FFS we haven’t had much luck with career ending injuries (throw Robbo & Hugh in for good measure)

Bonus is that he has a nice little contract that would come off the books if that’s the case.

Is out of contract this year so there would be no contract to take off the books.
You would think if fit he probably gets a new deal (less money)
If broken and needs to give the game up. It’s a nice little saver.

No, I think he could make it as a genuine CHB

It's clear we don't see Battle in that role.
It’s funny that a few years ago I felt like the key forward was dying and the Slightly smaller mobile types (Battle) appeared to be the in flavour.

now we have the giants well in favour again and really performing and I feel like Battle that rules battle out as a KPD. He is what they call a tweener In the NBA in my eyes.

The trends between Beasts and Athletic types will always cycle through fashion as one type can't stop the other. It's why a combination of King and a beastier type like McCartin was dreamed to be would have been a dynamic combo.

Take Hawkins and Cameron as a working example.

When you say we have four potential wins left for the year you obviously aren't counting Sydney who we nearly beat at the SCG without key players.

Who knows what will happen but if we finish bottom four people will lose their marbles. It will also mean our players are still playing poorly and haven't learnt to win so would not be a good sign at all.
Personally if it all goes pear shaped for the rest of the season I reckon that's probably a blessing in disguise. If people lose their marbles its only because they can't be bothered looking at the reasons why we've fared badly this year.

I still rate our team - we end up 15/16 this year we get a Pick 3/4 we were never ever going to be a chance to have and then if we snagged a 1st compo for someone leaving we then enter next year with a better draw, two top 5 picks and every mirror smashed, black cat killed and ladder walked under already done and dusted.

Bring it on !!!

There’s no rush on a new Swans deal for co-captain Luke Parker, reports AFL Media.

Parker, 28, is out of contract at season’s end and looms as one of the most talented free agents.

AFL Media reported on Thursday that talks over a new contract between Parker’s management and the Swans had begun, but CBA and salary cap uncertainty meant the two parties “aren’t rushing to a new deal”.

You know what stands out big time in these highlights?

he tries to take the ball forward moving each chance he gets.

as a comparison Billings is a back to goal type player, so when he gets it or marks he is generally needing to swing around.

He's got an assertiveness that our guys seem to lack. It's hard to tell at that age but looks like he has some self belief.

I was being a smart arse I rate him and sounds like he's good at both ends too.

So as a result of that article about Port’s reset in 2018 (not having a top 20 pick in any of the prior five years), and the stavro#4 argument re getting another early draft pick, I actually had a look at what Port did in 2018.

Essentially (as things get complicated):
They traded Polec and Pittard for the pick (eventually #6), they used for Rozee.
They already had the pick (eventually #12), they used for Butters.
They traded Wingard for the pick (eventually #18), they used for Duursma.

That’s some impressive trading.
We might argue about the merits of each trade, but they did move out three of their best 22, and got a couple of really good kids in return.
Either Duursma or Butters would walk into our best 22.
As would Rozee, but he was drafted.
Plus they addressed their list issues.

Then consider what they did in 2019 (with us) ultimately turning #10 and Howard/Ryder into #12 and #18, becoming Bergman and Georgiades.
Georgiades would walk into our team too.
Not sure about Bergman.

I think it‘s entirely plausible that we could match that.
It might not be a North trading to bolster their list, or a Hawthorn trading to extend their window, but there’ll be someone interested in a deal.
It just depends on the offer and for whom.

Or, as Stavro has suggested, we wait and see what free agency offers.

If Band #1 compo does become available it might be as low as #6.
Would we use that, or leverage it like Port into a #10 and #16 for example?

I guess what I am saying is that based on what Port achieved in 2018, there is no reason why we cannot adopt a similar strategy and get a similar outcome.

Ultimately the success of doing so will depend on three factors:

1. The quality and depth of quality in this year’s draft.
2. The List Manager’s ability to negotiate a strong trade result.
3. And the Recruiting Team’s ability to identify and select quality players with the hand they are dealt.

I reckon this year will be a great test to see how well our trade and recruiting team actually perform.

No excuses.
Just to add to the above, the year Port did it was also a very very very good draft. That strategy can work. But it HAS to be the right year. Not all drafts are made equal. Port were very clear that the reason they were doing this was because of the depth of high-end quality available that year (where a lot of the mid-late first round would actually be very very high picks in other years).

IMO, this strategy should only be considered if we think the quality is as good as a 2001 or 2018. Those opportunities only seem to come along once in a decade. Credit to Port for seizing that moment. But if we get it wrong and do it in a year with the quality of 2012 or 2014, then we are in a world of pain.

Of course I am not a recruiter. But I have heard nothing to suggest this year is anything like that at all. If anything, covid makes this year riskier than normal (as was last year). As previously noted by another poster, there is a reason only 1 player drafted last year has a rising star nom.

It is also why you have to look at the first round as a whole. Anyone can look at any year and pick out 1 or 2 gun players and say "why didn't we pick them"? That really is not helpful. The years like 01 and what 18 is tracking to be, have AA quality spread all throughout the top-end. Your odds of getting an out and out gun are infinitely higher then other years. So if you play this game, you really should only do it in a year that projects well for very high end depth amongst all the likely first rounders (as Port did in 18). The years where real draft watchers make comments like "that guy projected to go 4 or 5 would go 1 in nearly any other year" (that was King or Rozzee cough). Yes every player gets talked up pre draft. But those specific comments I find are actually very rare, and I have heard or read absolutely nothing like that about this year or last (which covid has made even more of a crapshoot then usual).

If we take a risk like that in the wrong year? Well then we are absolutely faaaarked!!

Not saints related.

But wtf?

I tried to tell people there are rumours that he's meant to be an uber flog....not just too much of a flog for just any club either. This is the club that don't draft kids unless they turn up to the interview without a shirt on and if it doesn't look like their hair was cut by their cellmate who hadn't seen the outside world since the 80s they aren't even considered. Seriously it sounds like he has some attitude problems which for them to not want him must be beyond the pale. They have Libba and Bruce as role models.

Bulldogs legend Robert Murphy? Who played alongside flag hero Tom Boyd, a key forward number one draft pick who moved clubs after one season where he found himself stuck behind a trio of important tall forwards, finds the idea of Ugle-Hagan being traded shocking?

Why I never.

Surely Bolton wants to go home and the Tigers are looking at a straight swap but hoping for some sugar on the deal. Freo would win massively in the short term but Cerra is going to be a very good player and at the Tigers possible even a great player to replace Cotchin long term.
Big money though so I’m not sure how that plays out, carlton $750,000 so the rumours go.
