Overdue - time for federal government to ban sports betting ads

The current world is great entertainment, no one seems to be able to control themselves anymore.
Some people are more impressionable as consumers than others. Not everyone has the same amount of self-control. Considering the millions of dollars spent on marketing per year from industries such as the gambling industry, I think you might be underestimating the power of the surreptitious intent to embed sports viewing with gambling.

Perfect time for a parent to speak to their kid about gambling isn't it?

We used to call them learning moments when I grew up.
sounds like a good idea. personally sex, drugs, alcohol and swearing would make dora the explorer much more entertaining for me. perfect teaching moments for the kiddies too.

Of course that's the best approach. But if every single person knew and understood the dangers of gambling, we wouldn't see the level of advertising in it that we do now - clearly it's working for them.

It's almost like these companies prey on people that aren't educated.

The people calling for banning it on TV are clueless.

TV isn't the issue, parents can control that aspect.

It's the internet ads are the true issue.

Most kids have phones and you cannot control a phones advertising like you can on a tv with a remote.

Kids spend far more time on their phones than they do watching tv.

Yeah I agree it's multi-faceted. The gamification of mobile betting apps is crazy, some even offer streaming services of live sport now.

if we ban sh*t parents can i get a segment of hardcore pornography in the middle of playschool or sesame street?
Perfect time slot to flog some blue pills for ED & throw in a few gambling ads to boot. A fortune to be made there ;-)

Gambling is legal, when you start comparing a legal product with illegal practices you lose.
pr0n is illegal now is it? Also, underage drinking is only illegal at licensed premises. It's not illegal to drink under 18 anywhere else.

but your argument was about whether the parents were s**t, not whether something was legal or not.

Yes my argument was about s**t parents.

Which is why when someone came up with a dumb arse irrelevant reply I called it a strawman.

Showing my age here.

When the TAB and Channel 7 first got together in the 1980s with Footybet that's where all this sports betting really started for most people.

Bookies used to be at a lot of sports back in the day.

Go watch a cycling event, have a bet at the on course bookies.

Go to an athletics carnival, have a bet at the on course bookies.

To be fair, organized/codified sports as a whole only really took off thanks to the gambling surrounding it. Times have changed though.

If it isnt banned..
I'd be happy to contribute to a hit on the dickhead who voices the sportsbet adds.
I'd be happy enough with that compromise.
