Autopsy Autopsy vs Brisbane - Rd14, 2021

I am posting through the filter of 2012 Wynns Cab and some Stanton and Killen 2005 VP, (and being a Brissie member )but I thought their were lots of positives AGAIN this week. Posters above have said all I would say but I have one downer.

For the second week Walker was our best tall defender.

Walker will not be in our next finals side.

Ben has leaked more goals than Walker this year, Now, Ben plays on the gun forward and we are last so it would be surprising if this wasn't so. Taz, also, will not be in our next final side.

I have an 'upper': Larkey played a game that just might change my opinion. I think on ballers are totally over rated. KPs win premierships. We need another key forward and back.

Noble tagged Rich with Scott. Possible here is a new horizon for Scott, as Rich has been as good for Brissie as Cunners has been for us. Neither will be All Australian.

Daniher, McStay & Hipwood combined for 5 marks inside 50 and 2-4 from 68 inside 50's.

McKay, Tarrant & Walker played well.

Wish we had the sort of umpire protection that their forwards are afforded.

Super soft ones to Cameron and Daniher make a difference in a tight game.
You can say soft, but that isn't the half of of it. That Cameron one needs an inquiry. Whatever the umpire thinks he saw didn't happen. Turner was royally bum-****ed by the umpires today. I can't put it any other way. Instead of frees against him the frees should have been paid to him.

IDGAF what anyone says, they significantly impact football matches. They negate and create momentum all the ****ing time.

Kept Brisbane in the game for 80 minutes and then they got the ascendency & kicked away.

Their absolute howlers took any pressure we could apply to Brisbane out of the equation.

The best one was when LMac was denied advantage and the umpire said I didn’t know if you were out or not? Well it’s not his call, that’s the boundary umpires job and if there is no call he can’t decide not to pay advantage of a player takes it.

Let’s be honest the Daniher and Cameron goals are a disgrace and I am sick of us being on the end of these terrible calls, especially when we don’t seem to get anything going our way.

As much as umpiring is a mugs game (somebody will always be unhappy), it really is annoying that the "swings and roundabouts" theory really doesn't pan out. It doesn't matter what the total number of free kicks ends up as - it is still highly possible that one or two missed and another one or two paid can swing the momentum - especially if they happen at key moments in the game. Genuine sliding door events if you like.

A couple of those deliberates were dodgy if you compare them with quite a few clearly obvious times when players simply pushed the ball over the line or stepped over it with the ball. That free paid against Cunnington was one real turning point, as were the frees against Turner that resulted directly in opposition goals. Unacceptable errors.

The 50 was salt rubbed into the wounds.

Came in here expecting some real positivity after what was a really good performance considering our opposition... how silly of me.

Great performance, 23 point loss against a flag fancy is a result in itself. That first half is as good as we’ve been this year. Not much more we could ask for.

Positives:
- Tarryn Thomas is our future A Grader. Guys a freak.
- LDUs first half was the best half of footy he’s put together. To this point he’s put together good quarters, but it’s great to see him put together 2. Had Mathieson running with him at the start of the 3rd which is a testament to how good he was. Still finished with 22 Disposals.
- Simpkins second half, wow he really stood up. Funny how after 80 games a bloke can really run out a game (double the amount of LDU). He just loves the club, never stops competing and is a great young leader.
- Taylor’s first half I thought was as good as he’s been.
- Zurhaar & Larkey continue their strong vein of form. Starcevic is arguably the best mid sized lock down in the comp & has shut down many quality players this year including dusty, CZ did a great job. Souvs marking & worth rate has improved.
- Daniel Rich ended up with 18 Disposals (5-10 of those would be from kick ins), likely the least he’s had this year - Bailey Scott well done.
- Goldy was dominant particularly in the first half.
- Turner did a great job on Cameron.
- Cunnington is so important for the young blokes.
- Powell had an excellent first half, tank not there yet to do it for 4 quarters.
- Two good games for Dumont in a row, funny how continuity helps.
- Mcdonald was great to have back.

In summary a great performance against a really quality side. If you are digging for negatives, you’re just out of touch & need a spell.
don’t want to be too much of a fanboi but Cunners seems to love the young blokes too - that photo of him kissing TT is the best

I know the AFL keep ******* around with the rules but can someone tell me when it was decided that if any North player kicks, punches, spoils, taps, handballs, slips/trips over the boundry with the ball it automatically becomes a free kick to the opposition?
North are not AFL darlings.

The umpiring was a comedy imo, especially the 3rd quarter where no player on the ground had intent to keep the ball in according the the bozos adjudicating.

Lots to like. Effort and up for the scrap most of the game.

The midfield rotations looks to be on point but Cunners noticeably absent when the game was on the line.

Larkey dropped at least 5 marks that should be routine grabs for his talent but over all a good game by him.

Taylor, Mahony and Scott had more impact than their stats suggest.

Add Phillips after another pre-season, Horne, possibly a FA like Kelly and then introduce Edwards and Comben to this side and it’s going to be bursting at the seams with talent.

Need a rebounding defender and small speedy forward for the future.
Hopefully ham or Perez can fill the defenders role but small forwards is still to be recruited.

Of course there's still a long road ahead, but the direction is becoming clearer. Our defensive efforts and structure are miles ahead of where they were earlier in the season. That's what good sides are built on.
Had Brisbane under genuine pressure for most of the game until our fitness gave out again. We desperately need a complete overhaul of how we conduct our pre-season, because being able to run out a full game will make a huge difference.
There's bits and pieces at the moment, the signs that we can bring them together are growing. Horne and Kelly would be very useful additions to keep growing the group.
Biggest positive for mine was LDU's first half, we saw the player he'll be. Needs another couple of pre-seasons, to maintain that standard for a full game.
