Autopsy Rd 14 - Cats beat Dogs after the siren. The this is gonna be good thread.

The real question is what was Caleb doing on the mark it should have been a tall.
It's been asked and answered twice already in this thread.

Still waiting on enlightenment if anybody knows the new rules thoroughly...

Based on our season’s form up till this point, I’d say we at least go 6–3 for the last 9 games which means we will end up on 16-6 with great percentage. Top 4, possibly top 2. But I think we’ll at least go 7-2 and finish 17-5 that will pretty much assure a top 2 finish. We are still in a great position. The last two losses have come against 2 of the top 3 sides and they were without 2 of our best mids in Dunks and Treloar. Big finish ahead

I was not saying that it is not painful or can get you out for weeks. Some people have pain thresholds that are just amazing. Brereton played with broken ribs in the Geelong GF. The cyclist guy I know has broken his ribs a number of times and he says he is used to it. Go figure. If I break a nail, I don't get out of bed for weeks.
The other factor for professional athletes 'recovery' is the range of serious pain killers available.

Apologies but I was not going to search the 20 pages.
I understand but there’s a search function for that. No need to trawl through 20 pages. If you search for “Caleb” in this thread you can quickly find it.

Anyway point made, I’ll save you the trouble:

I would prefer he rest tbh if that's the case. Bring in Schache. I want 100% fit in September not 60% fit in July
After kicking 6 in the 2's Schache deserves another try (cant believe I wrote that ;)), last chance Josh!
Mainly to give Astro a week to recover. Perths always a hard ask, especially with our currrent injury list and their umpiring advantage there. Rest the semi-injured, give the almost theres another week, bring in the fringe players and accept what comes of that. Its west coast in Perth, pencil in a L and move on.

Re Friday, anywhere else we win, with half our team out injured. Pussies dont scare me now. If theyre flag favourites the bookies are going bust

It's always deflating to lose after the siren, more so when it's courtesy of a Grand Final choke specialist, but I'm not even that mad.

Geelong are 4 or 5 goals better at the Cattery. Play them in the finals at the MCG with Treloar, Dunkley, one of Martin/Sweet and a full game from Naughton (likewise add Duncan for them) and we should have them covered.

The question is, can we break that 16 win barrier? If we do, this loss is irrelevant.

Its a hard one, because he's seconds form probably warrants another shot. But he was horrendous against Richmond and it wouldnt surprise me if his papers were stamped

If this is true, why am I still do flat? It's been the most dejected I have ever been after a Home and Away loss. I felt sick in the stomach all of Friday, and that became ten times worse after we lost. The pain isn't going away.

I have avoided all footy talk in the media since Friday night. I'm surprised I'm even posting here.

I wouldn't mind Schache being played as well as Naughton (if he comes good). He can play on the wing and go forward.
It would benefit him more having both Bruce and Naughton, Schache seems to struggle having the first or even second best defender.

Agreed. If he gets another chance its gotta be this week to give Astro a rest. But wouldnt surprise me to see him stay home.

Just woke up and am on my way to buy a new tv... threw my Birkenstock at the wall and accidentally hit the 65" Samsung and shattered the screen.... $3.5k down the drain... The other half not happy... I blamed the poor dog :)

Regardless.... Mitch Hannan is very disappointing. The amount of times he runs under the ball is so frustrating. I struggle to see what this bloke offers. People say he has elite pressure but to be honest I just don't see it.

I thought big Tim struggled around the ground last night. Got edged out of to many aerial contests which was frustrating. His ruck work at centre bounces can be frustrating as well. Gets his hands to it first but didn't really provide us with much of an advantage. Trying to tap it back to our sweeper cost us a couple times as when it doesn't come off it gave Geelong momentum going forward.

How many times do all our defenders fly for the ball and either let it get behind them or don't kill the ball boundary side. It's so annoying and happens week to week. It kills us at times!!

I hate Geelong.... so bloody smug and the curse continues.
Try claiming it on insurance? Kids made a mistake 😉

I'd take that.
TBH if we finish top 4 and get a Victorian based final I'd be over the moon, it would beat pre-season expectations.

Dunkley, Treloar and Martin fit for finals would see us primed. I really like VDM's style as well, I think he's the type who would stand up in a a final.

I'm not sure I'm quite as bad, but I did fixate on it for an unhealthy amount of time over the weekend. I think it's a few things:
- It would have been a massive four points against another contender, given our outs and their relative lack of them
- We rarely beat them in important games, if ever
- While a win almost cements top four, a loss then going into quarantine in WA and a potential loss vs WC means we'd be on the bubble again
- We should have won if not for glaring misses in front of goal from Scott and Bont, or some elementary mistakes in the last two minutes when the game should have been iced

I am personally flat that the MC still don't value a two ruck setup when it appears glaringly obvious that's our best structure as English can't ruck all game and it makes us weaker up forward. But I've ranted enough about that since Fri night.....

Then there's my general dislike for everything Geelong-related. Chris Scott's over the top celebrations, Selwood is somehow dirty but also protected, Dangerfield etc. The way we lost the game combined with all of that makes it a tough one to swallow. Look forward to playing them later in the year hopefully.

I have doubts he is a week in, week out AFL player.
Based on last week's form in the VFL he gets a gig, even if just for selection integrity. Big ground in WA and his forte is covering ground, he covers Ben Brown type KMs.

I've broken ribs a couple of times, and I have nothing but respect for players who play through them (Lappin or Black went into a GF with broken ribs, insane).
Getting hit would hurt a helluva lot, but coughing or sneezing is worse. I can get playing on if you break them in a game though, adrenaline works wonders in the short term.

Richards needs more time before stepping in. Up until now he’s been a very flakey player. He needs to show consistency in his form in the VFL for a number of weeks IMO

AFLCA Votes

I'm shocked to be sitting here saying that Scott gave votes to more Dogs players than Cats players (even if the Dogs' votes were just the wagging tail).

Geelong v Western Bulldogs
9 - Tom Stewart (GEEL)
6 – Tom Liberatore (WB)
6 – Marcus Bontempelli (WB)
4 – Sam Menegola (GEEL)
3 – Taylor Duryea (WB)
2 – Jack Macrae (WB)

There might be a few possible combinations but my guess is it went like this:
SCOTT
5 - Stewart
4 - Bont
3 - Menegola
2 - Macrae
1 - Libba

BEVO
5 - Libba
4 - Stewart
3 - Duryea
2 - Bont
1 - Menegola

The coaches agreed on 4 players being among their best. The only two players who got votes from only one coach were Macrae and probably Duryea.

Bont is now second only two votes behind Oliver for the overall AFLCA award:

Leaderboard
68 – Clayton Oliver (MELB)
66 – Marcus Bontempelli (WB)
60 – Ollie Wines (PORT)
55 – Hugh McCluggage (BL)
55 – Darcy Parish (ESS)
52 – Touk Miller (GC)
49 – Max Gawn (MELB)
48 – Zach Merrett (ESS)
48 – Sam Walsh (CARL)
44 – David Mundy (FRE)

That flog in an interview said he went to Rohan after the game and told him he wouldn't want the ball in any one else's hands in that situation

Whole club makes me sick
I'm sure Tom Hawkins was thrilled to hear that. Not,
