Agree, in saying that i do take my phone everywhere basically abs check in, also have had police take my DNA due to the nature of some of the places I work at, but have been assured is only to be used for cross condemnation purposes..
I wonder if I did commit a crime...

I stand by my comment that the people complaining about it being accessed in this case, are most likely the same people who would be complaining and critical of the police and government for not using it to catch a murderer or paedo if the opportunity was there.

Checking in is mandatory in WA BUT it is not enforced. I'm always seeing people just walk straight on by OR pretending to check in, which I will admit that I do this when I go to our local Bunnings because soon as I get near the building I lose reception for my app every time! and I refuse to put my details on a sign in sheet which is viewed by all because I've had two situations where men have stalking/ following me home from my local shop.

I wouldn't suggest the police breach the trust of the public to catch a murderer or a paedo. That's a bad idea.

Again it’s hard to say when and when not, what if somebody stole a car and police knew they checked in.. do they use that info? And what if that car was used for a murder getaway car 1 month later.. gets too complex

This is an absolute abuse of power by WAPol and just lazy. Sure, they have to use every resource they can to take murdeters off the streets blah blah. But! They used the Safer WA data to find witnesses. I hazard to say some of those witnesses would prefer not to be anyway involved in a bikie execution, but now will no doubt find themselves subpoenaed. And to be fair the chances of them actually seeing the shooter or where he was is pretty unlikely. No, the police just wanted to dragnet everyone who was there that night to paint a picture. They most likely already had the shooter thanks to Anom anyway.

This is a very slippery dystopian slope. When does it get to the point police will have the power to stop you to do a health check or check you’ve been vaccinated?

Policing used to be an honourable and respected occupation. Now it’s about intelligence gathering using any means. I’d personally think twice about being in a social setting for example (bbq, house party) if I knew there were off duty police there. I certainly wouldn’t socialise with any. s**t blokes.

Now that it has been revealed that Victoria has similar issues, it will be interesting to see if Victorian get's dragged down the same path as WA, despite their Police Minister being reported as currently not supporting how the WA Government have dealt with this issue.

Thinking here there might be some other police operations playing out around this as well where they all link up possibly through that encrypted app the AFP and the FBI were covertly managing, it could be quite complicated. But as you say, we'll see!
