So who are some of the names we've been apparently into so far?

Dawson
Stephens
Hewett
Rankine
Lukosius
Coleman-Jones
Francis
Dumont
Lipinski??

Thinking about Crouch and Kelly (both automatic best 22 if fit).....

If you're looking at Brisbane and their build, they were happy to try and get best price for players, in order to stock up talent through trade/draft. Obviously some had extenuating circumstances for going, but.....I'm thinking Jack Redden (pick 17 in 2015) Pearce Hanley (pick 22 in 2016), Tom Rockliff (end of first round 2017) and Schache (2nd and 3rd rounders in 2017).

They also made sure that they had the structure and support in place to become a 'destination' club (Cameron, Neale, Hodge)

And....they drafted well (2016, Mcluggage and Berry), 2017 (Rayner, Bailey and Starcevich).

As much as I'd like to believe that things are changing, I'm not feeling at all optimistic. The club is over reliant on senior players and when they're gone......

Some of these are only on our board, admittedly.

The media is putting us with Luko, Rankine, Stephens and Dawson that I've seen. CCJ seems to be linked to others, as does Lipinski.

Last year Keays spent some time on the wing when all our first choice mids were fit and available. He still performed well there and found the footy.

Some of our other mids have been centre square or nothing players but Keays seems a bit more rounded.

I think we can develop Schoenberg, Berry and Pedlar as mids alongside Keays whereas with Sloane and M Crouch it actually make it harder to develop those guys as midfielders

Sloane should be able to play wing as well. But he won't accept demotion from first bounce centre square mid. He worked hard for the promotions that got him to that level. No way he'll go backwards, after all, he's more experienced and therefore valuable than when he first ascended to the gig.

I wouldn't.

No guarantees he won't have the same issues here and he has happily extended his contract with the Bombers twice IIRC.
There is no guarantee. His issues are his brother’s death and most of his mates live in Adelaide from the Riverland. He’s be worth 3 rounder at best, but I would swap depth player for him.

All I've heard is basically anyone from South Australia we're interested in.

Not sure what has brought on the West Coast strategy lately, maybe something that Kelly and Nicks are pushing with list management? But seems we have a preference for local talent ATM.

Walker re-signs for another year..

Good to see it looks like the club stuck to its guns in only giving year long contracts to over 30’s players..

Fear they probably paid him his current yearly salary though...
Wouldn't have an issue if they did TBH, bit I doubt they will have done

Cheer up, princess, you almost sound disappointed he's signed on.
Wow... you’ve clearly completely lost the plot havent you..

I’m bloody happy to see both Tex sign on and, at the same time, the club stick to its own processes when it comes to list management.

Go have a lie down dear... its been a big day for you digging that hole..

You have to have the plot to lose it...

Seedsman (who was not cemented at AFL level with the Pies at the time) cost us pick 32

There is NO way Dawson is coming to us for less than that (i.e. Melb's 2nd) lol

but we historically paid overs back then to get the deal done so we could move on to other matters. I reckon the only time we held firm was the Sauce trade where we wouldn't cough up our first which they were after. And I reckon it was our first first rounder following the Trigg sanctions. Was never going anywhere but the draft.

Poor bugger.. he shouldve come home instead of signing his last contract..

Been through some heartbreaking sh*t losing his brother/best friend to cancer the way he did..

Grew up in a tiny outback SA town with a population of 30 so he and his brother wouldve obviously been bloody close.

Aparently he’s been pretty good this year for the bumbers..

Kelly is a FA isnt he?.. not sure why, if they actually wanted Kelly, essendon would look at a player swap when they could just grab kelly for nothing and trade a contracted Francis to us for something..

If we're not keen on extending Kelly then why would we be wasting games on him? It would be very Richard Douglasesque. Very AFC though. I think that of our experienced players, only Mackay and Lynch are at risk of not being offered an extension. And only one of them. Talia will be offered an extension, it's only the terms that are in question given his ongoing foot issue.

Kelly shouldn't be automatic best 22, he's exactly the type of limited footballer that a bottom 6 best 22 needs to improve upon to become a genuine contender. The way our coaches and many posters here think is that our list is basically complete and our current best 22 is good enough if all fit. All we'll need to do is replace retiring players in a like for like manner. Newsflash, it's not true.

We were always going to wilt to public pressure. But he has certainly maintained a good level of form and at this moment deserves another year based on that. Still, I'd have not extended him till the season had concluded. The big problem is that if he falls off a cliff we'll have to carry him in the 1s because there's zero chance he'll play SANFL unless tuning up after lots of weeks out.
