Re: Official 2007 Magpies Nest

Friday 9th March Praccie Match vs Swans

Seems like my buddy Paul Licuria had a pretty solid game from all reports. He ran and ran kicked two goals, but I am unsure as to how many disposals he did have though. Copped a whack to the head in the second quarter but came back on and played well.

Wish I had more info to share but I was once again not at the game and therefore my info is coming from all types of sources.

But glad to hear he had a good game and was named as one of the pies best.

Bring on Season 2007!!

Buddy Report - Heath Shaw
NAB Challenge Match vs Sydney at Narrandera

From reports, Shaw was one of the Pies best, once more, showing a consistent brand of footy off half-back. Below, we see Shaw adding the pressure to the best opponents, as always.

Dane Swan

Guernsey Number: 36

Height 183cm

Weight: 83kg

Recruited From: Westmeadows/Calder U18

Debut: 2003

Date of Birth: 25 February 1984

www.collingwoodfc.com.au

Swan managed just 30 games in his first four seasons in the system at Collingwood, and although he played some solid football in that time, no one predicted his startling rise to prominence in 2006, where he played 21 games and finished 6th in the EW Copeland Trophy voting. Swan mainly rotated through the midfield and seemed to be able to drift forward at the most opportune moments. His first nine weeks, where he averaged nearly 26 disposals and kicked 15 goals, were simply outstanding, before a hamstring injury suffered against Brisbane in round ten sidelined him until round 13. Swan accumulated the third-most total disposals at the club (487) despite missing that chunk of football mid-season, and kicked the sixth-most goals (19). The 22-year-old was one of the big improvers not only at Collingwood, but of the competition, and has gone from being a spare-parts player to one of the most important contributors in the Collingwood midfield.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dane_Swan

Son of former VFA star Billy, Swan was drafted to Collingwood in 2001. Didn't make an appearance in his first season, he made his debut mid-way through the 2003 season, but only managed 3 games as a bench player. His career seemed inconsistent, but he fought hard off the half-back flank, but still had limited game time in 2004. Had a solid 2005 season after fighting into the side, to have some great performances in his early games, but despite fading, he had better consistency. In 2003, he was charged following a brawl with a security guard.

In 2006 Swan made a name for himself impressing as one of the most improved players in the league, and having an incredible impact off the bench. Swan played 21 games, missing two with a hamstring injury. He averaged over 23 touches, and was one of the league's biggest ball magnets, comparing time played and disposals. He also became a solid contributor in front of goal, kicking 19 goals, with most coming in the first half of the year. He bought up his 50th career game also.

Therussian says

Much like the FOX8 reality show the ugly duckling became THE SWAN in season 2006 (sorry guys but it had to be done) Swan was easily the most improved in the AFL and midway through the season had the honour of having the city end scoreboard pocket re named 'THE DANE SWAN POCKET' by avid Collingwood fans 'therussian and sloth_6' after slotting through some memorable goals from said pocket.

Dane Swan will again be a vital cog in the magpie machine in season 07 and is also therussian Pies Buddy

James Clement

Jumper Number: 8
Height:190cm
Weight:95kg

Recruited From: South Fremantle / Fremantle Dockers
Collingwood Debut: 2001

Playing Honours:
EW Copeland Trophy (Best & Fairest) 2004, 2005
RT Rush Trophy (2nd Best and Fairest) 2006
JJ Joyce Trophy (3rd Best and Fairest) 2002
Best Finals Player 2002

Twice State of Origin Rep.
International Rules Series 2002
All-Australian 2004, 2005

Arguably regarded as one, if not the best defender in the competition, James Clement, without question is one of the Maggies most valuable players. His aptitude to mark small or tall forwards and ability to rebound from half back is unrivalled by any other player in the competition.

Traded to the Maggies at the end of the 2000 season, Jimmy has become an integral cog in the Magpies machine. A leader in every sense of the word, Jimmy has been able to take his game to another level season after season. His 2004 and 2005 Copeland Trophy winning years, are testament to the amount he puts in on and off the field.

A crowd favorite, and a magpie that you know will give everything for his side each round. All Collingwood fans can depend on Jimmy Clement to put his heart and soul on the line each time the he pulls on that black and white jumper.

James Clement, my Pies Buddy for 2007.

Paul Licuria

Round 1 vs Roos

Time on Ground: 102 mins

18 possesions - 1 goal 2 behinds

3 marks

2 clearances

3 tackles

1 free for 1 free against

5 clangers

Not his best game by a mile but cant say I was either disappointed or expectant of a big game today. He had only played I think 2 practice matches prior to today, so I think the run will do him good.

I hope his a kick ass game over here in Perth in round 2!!

Buddy Report - Heath Shaw
Rnd 1 vs Kangaroos

heater07sf4.png

Heath once again looked rock solid in defence as the Pies go to man as he provided the run and drive off half-back. Shaw had a Pies high 27 possessions, including 22 kicks, and also had 12 marks, of which 2 were contested. His courage was shown in many contests, one where he stopped a big chance for the Roos where he dived infront of a marking contest causing a spoil, and what looked like an injury, laying on the ground for several seconds, but the tough man he is, he continued on.

Those were the positives, but the negatives are there as well. Heater had an amazing 13 clangers, a record for my mind since the stat has been published. 5 of those were a result of free kicks against Shaw, which a couple may not have been there, but that is an umpiring issue. He also had some major errors which may have cost the game. A pass from Leon Davis into the goalsquare, by himself would've seen another goal, but a fumble 5 metres out with no pressure certainly made him a villian, and then to give Shannon Grant a 50 metre penalty in the last minutes, in which Grant would shank beautifully off his boot, Shaw was saved.

Re: Official 2007 Magpies Nest

LEON DAVIS

A generally quiet day for 'Neon' Leon, but wasnt the worst. 8 possessions and 5 tackles proving he was serviceable, at times a little unlucky. Probably should have had 2 holding the ball decisions go his way in the 3rd quarter, but didnt, and thats football!

Whats with the efficiency? 81% with 13 clangers! Doesnt seem to fit

Heater is lucky! He definately wasnt my favourite person for 30 seconds haha. Scott Burns still is though!!!! :thumbsu:

My only explanation for Shaw having 81% efficiency with 13 clangers is he must have had a lot of non-disposal clangers as well like dropped marks, frees against.

5 frees against and 1 50 metre penalty against (50m penalties aren't included as FA), so that means he had 6 non-disposal clangers from undisciplined acts.

A fumble in the square was easily recorded as a clanger, so that is 7, so say 6 were from Clanger Disposals.

27 disposals at 81% efficiency sees 22 effective disposals...so maybe all 5 of his uneffective disposals were all clangers.

Another thing on top of that was I remember him having 2 bad kick-ins, which may have been counted as clangers. Those kick-ins aren't recorded in both disposal and efficiency columns, yet can be recorded as clangers.
