Is it just me or does it feel like the chasing pack is starting to make a bit of ground on Horne in terms of draft stock?

I'm not saying Horne's dropping, just that the perception around the players beneath him may be improving at a slightly faster rate
I dunno. Depends how close a follower of the draft you are I guess. I tend to take little interest in the first half of the season. And then I realise that the season is another one where all you have to look forward to is the draft.

So early in the season I’ve invariably heard about the potential top couple of draftees and as is human nature they’re the only names that exist. As the season wears on you hear about all these other potential top 20 names and realise that there’s way more talent available than just the top couple of names.

I agree. For me I've stopped trying to get hooked onto specific players (cause that hurts too much), and more start to find the draft sweetspots where you can find 3-4 players you would love to get. And we seem to be in that time of the year where the sweet spots are starting to flesh out.

For me the best available players in the 2-6 range is starting to really flesh out at the moment. And there seems to be more players entering that bottleneck then there are exiting it. Which is probably why I feel like the general perception of that cluster of draftees is on the rise

I think it’s really all down to exposure. Jason was playing league football last year when all of Vic was sitting out.

As the season wears on and more boys get an opportunity to show their wares it’s inevitable more will rise.

True, but given this it is fair to say that perceptional gap between Jason and the other available prospects may no longer be as wide as it was say 3 months ago?

Anyone else watching Metro vs County?

Daicos already racking them up. Hobbs and Goater impressive in the middle for each of their sides, as well as MacDonald

My take is Jason still sits pretty comfortably on his own of available players. I really don’t think that will change. Watchers who like to focus on the Victorian boys will no doubt talk them up, but would be a major shock if Horne doesn’t end up with NM.

Rankin and Andrew the other two that have really impressed me so far. Rankin seems to have been everywhere in linkup chains, while Andrew just has some super athletic traits for his height

I think ward has been clear best on ground all day with daicos , liked Goater other than his kicking which has been poor
Ward has great awareness. The commentary team made the comparison with Steele, which I can kinda see

Goater has some superb hands and balance, but yeah could be better by foot. Still almost top 10 for mine

Gadsby #12 for country has also been solid , awkward kick like a Michael Symons though . Judson Clarke lifting here . Rachele and Chesser quiet

Also I think Darcy I’d have in front of a daicos if pressed ( not that it makes any diff )

One is potential rare type vs a very good type that you see relatively often in drafts

Sore foot for Callaghan

Heavy emphasis on mids and tossed in several small/medium forwards and a ruck.

1. Campbell Chesser - very quiet
2. Josh Goater - V GOOD , some of his kicking wasn’t great . Great size and hands
3. Ben Hobbs - OK , don’t think he suits us
4. Josh Ward - GREAT , high footy IQ
5. Josh Rachele - quiet , had moments only
6. Josh Sinn - not keen , prefer Wilmot
7. Judson Clarke - quiet but has class
8. Blake Howes - ok
9. Paul Curtis - excellent
10. Toby Conway - ok , wouldn’t draft in main draft

Also liked Andrew , Gibcus and Rankin , and want to see more Breuer , Gadsby , Worner

You've got to remember Chesser hasn't played any footy for about 6 weeks and the Vic Country boys haven't trained together unlike the Metro boys.

I'd still be keen to draft Ben Hobbs and Toby Conway is the best ruck prospect in this draft IMO....He absolutely won't be available in the rookie draft, some ordinary recruiters if he is.

Gibcus smashed Darcy in the 4th, tbh

Ward BOG for mine, Daicos very close though. Curtis worked into the game really well, haven’t heard much about him until now but looks a likely type

MacDonald was actually close to Hobbs in impact, for mine. Interesting to hear each of their numbers

Fair enough but I wouldn’t draft Conway with our earlier picks of at all

Seen Wilmot before ? Not really what we need early picks either but a good player

Thoughts on Mitch Knevitt Mutineer Jeffcrowe ? Taller mid who seemed pretty consistent in impact over the four quarters today. Good in the air in particular
Is Knevitt that tall, I saw him play live earlier in the year at Wendourie and didn't look that tall standing alongside Ben Hobbs and Marcus Herbert who had the measure of the Falcons mids that day, certainly not as tall as Goater to my eye anyhow.
