This is worth a read, a data giant uses algorithms to predict the result of each event and has us landing on 13 gold medals.

Surely this is the absolute max - as Paris pointed out it also doesn't account for the choke factor which has been a recurring theme for Aussies at the Olympics (see Cate Campbell).

edit - the article has us penciled in for ZERO individual golds in the pool.

funny enough they only named 12. Cant trust a data "giant" who cant count

Well if we hit the overs getting zero individual golds in the pool its going to be an exciting fortnight!

I see he also has the Men's hockey in there so obviously has zero choke variable in his models

Makes sense based on investment for Aus. Is there any broader global analysis of investment vs Golds available? Would be a nice data point to tap into some overs assuming the investment pre these Olympics is known.

That trend isn't the investment - its the ramp up in the doping program that each nation does before each home games - I'd expect to see the UK gold tally to drop markedly this time around for example.

Covid is probably going to be a huge factor so maybe laying a lot of the favourites from dodgy countries might be the go

I like it - surely African nations will just let it rip for the chance at a medal

You might find this an interesting watch:

essentially drug testing is usually pretty shit but because of COVID it's now VERY shit because old mate in Tbilisi just got to complete a dozen cycles because of no out of competition testing

this video comes from a strictly lifting POV but I'm sure it's relevant to pretty much every sport

anyone up on Kazakhstan medals?

We’re always good to pull at least one gold out of our arse in shooting. Michael Diamond or some Eastern Europe ring in who’s lived in Aus for 3 months.

I’ll start trawling through the court reports to cross check against our shooters. Normally a good way to find a gold medalist

Jacobs is a medal chance.

Awesome news. Who knows what the world or the Olympics will look like by then but at least half justifies Anna's visit to Japan right now in the middle of a pandemic. Clearly she had the heads up they were going to win

It was uncontested and still there were 5 votes AGAINST them getting it.
