Hahah the AFL media's love affair with * continues
Are they ******* serious?

All year, the pressure is on us to make finals, "finals or bust!", and when it's Essendon's prospects they're better off not making it because if they do they'd have to play away?

Piss off. Holy s**t!

First team in history to be better off not making finals. But if we don't make it with way more injuries, literally no tall forwards and a similar age demographic its the end of the world (despite pretty much no AFL "expert" having us in their top 8 at the start of the year)

If Essendon miss finals by a (half) game and/or percentage it'll be glorious to know we played a hand in that.

That's a ripper tweet.

I'm wondering, when was the last time that a team with 8 wins after 18 games was in the eight?

Nobody seems to want that 8th spot.

St. Kilda 2011. 8-1-9.

This is the only other time it has happened with a top 8.

All those essendon flog supporters coming out the woodwork, professing how good their kids are and how Carlton is going nowhere. Regardless of how good their kids are looking, $hit can change in the space of year.

I am finding their posters on BF as intolerable as the bulldogs posters. I find those two supporter groups are the worst on BF. So for that reason I wish nothing but utter failure for their clubs for this year and to bask in the joy of that misery.

I believe when we ended up on top of ladder by four wins in 1995, the 8th team was only on 10 wins.
Bears I believe, Walls was coaching them for last time and first time they made finals and only team all finals series to push us.

Brisbane were 7-11 after round 18. Went 3-1 to end the season on fire.

The team that was eighth after round 18 that year was Melbourne with 9-9 record. They lost their final 4 games of the season to miss finals.

I know, had a look at all that after I posted the last round ladder. Crazy to think how Demons and Pies ****ed up so bad and Bears caught them both in last round. Then they pushed us in the 1 v 8 final at the MCG. It was the sign the likes of Voss, White, Akermanis etc were building the nucleus of the team to come that won three flags in a row , early the next decade. *, they had to go through a few coaches to get there though...

And yet * are a game and percentage above a Carlton side that has played Murphy/Levi/Newnes/Cottrell in the same side in a lot of games thanks to injuries and developing kids in the twos, a head coach who unfortunately doesn’t seem up to being a head coach, assistants and line coaches who need replacing, John Barker who left mid-season when it should have happened years ago, a non-existent game plan and an internal review hanging over their heads.

If the very best football that * could produce under a head coach that the media praises is a game and percentage above 13th on the ladder after Round 18, there is nothing noteworthy about that. If *’s best 22 could only muster up that against all those issues that Carlton have had this year, they really shouldn’t be getting too excited.

“Stirring run through the middle part of the season” - what is the middle part? 😂

If they said the second half of the season, we could have started at Round 10-18. * have gone 5-4 with wins over Kangaroos, Eagles, Hawks, Crows and Kangaroos again (Thank You, Uncle Gill). Stirring run of form!

I pointed out the irony to one of them in the Tour de France thread when they said all riders were on the juice or they couldn't compete. :p :tearsofjoy:
