Maykaylah Appleby based on her performances this year?
There's no questioning she's got some elite traits, her speed/ burst is ridiculous when she's given the space, and I haven't seen anyone else in the vic pool as confident in taking a bounce with an opponent breathing down her neck as her, but she's probably not getting enough of the ball consistently enough to demand an early selection, and I still have some question marks on her kicking. As a late pick though I reckon there's a lot worse options

Could you see the Dogs picking up both Appleby and Maeve Chaplin in the second round?

Nothing would overly shock me given how differently people seem to be seeing it, I personally wouldn't do that given I think there'll be better performed and higher ceiling players than Appleby available, and Bulldogs probably don't need a Chaplin sort

I agree with you. But the Dogs do love their Northern Knights which makes me second guess every talent available to them.

They've never really reached overly far for a Knights talent to be fair, Appleby in the second round wouldn't be shocking despite what I think, Chaplin that high would be an eyebrow raiser however

Actually the old academies Maeve Chaplin and Olivia Meagher. They couldn't fall through again, could they?

Terribly. My crystal ball is in need of some serious repairs.
You and me both, or maybe mine is fine since I had Ling in high first round range yet apparently recruiters have only seen her there in the past week?

Meagher looks pretty likely given the consistent performance at VFLW level, Chaplin however is a bit of a iffy one, hard to confidently say she's improved to a point where clubs would take her

I thought you would have thought the complete opposite. So if Meagher falls to Collingwood, they'd be nuts not to take her? Then again my club is notorious for screwing up this time of year.

Oh I'm not in the business of calling clubs nuts for not taking someone, they see an awful lot more than we do, but it'd be odd to keep a girl in your VFLW side all year when she's NAB League eligible and not take her

I'm not confident either Vicious. But I will post a full phantom draft tomorrow, it probably won't be as accurate as last year. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to review the u19 championships or the NAB League games more than once. We got one watch of each game and that was it. But what will be, will be tomorrow night.

Collingwood did seem very keen to draft off their VFLW team. Not sure who else they might consider. Barnett? Zander? You'd probably know better than I.

If Meagher does miss out again, I wouldn't want to be playing her in round one next year. I think there were a lot of very sore Jets after round one of the NAB this year.

So when they passed on Ash Riddell in 2017 just for an example, that was logical? They chose Sarah Dargan Kristy Stratton, and Holly Whitford as a rookie instead. Now Ash Ridell made Team of the Year in 2017. The team was surrounded by AFLW talent. Yet she was the only pure VFLW talent not to be drafted in a time when Collingwood was desperate for midfielders. Now Riddell made the All-Australian team in 2020 and was nominated again for the team this year. Trust me I could go on.

if Meagher does miss out, she will be heading straight to Hawthorn. The Eastern Ranges have an affiliation with the Hawks. With Meagher being a former Ranges girl, she'd fit right in.

Didn't watch much AFLW related football in 2017 unfortunately, it just comes down to different clubs rating different traits in different orders, we see it a lot in the boys as well, maybe Collingwood saw more potential improvement in the three they took for example, I can't say for sure.

At least you're honest.

Saints mentioned Ling as an option

Edit: Alongside Prespakis and Craven for the role of inside mid

How do you think Appleby compares to the other wingers in the draft? I assume you'd have her behind Reid and Smith, probably Vickers as well. Houtsma?

Also, were any of the Victorian 2k times a surprise to you? I can't say I was expecting Matser.

Yeah it's not overly surprising given what's unfolded over the past week or so, Ling would be the choice for me out of those two. The focus on a Ruck/ Tall Forward makes me wonder whether Vacuous Space might be right in saying Gillard will be the Saints second selection :eyes: or perhaps Bohana at your last pick

Yeah behind Vickers, Reid, Smith and Houtsma currently for me, but she does have all of them beat for speed so if that's the main focus for a club she'd probably go before Vickers and Houtsma.
I was initially surprised with Matser but was told it's one thing she's constantly worked on, I've never considered endurance one of her strengths but hadn't noticed it as a deficiency either.

I wonder if the Dogs will look at Matser if Gillard doesn't fall to them or potentially Collingwood later. There seems to be a lot there to work with.

Yeah Pie 4 Life has been a big Matser advocate behind closed doors for her work in the Ruck, it's just the involvement in general play that is a concern
