Are Port Adelaide a real flag threat?

This team reminds me of the port adelaide in 2001.. The rise of the young team when not many expected it

Please don't repeat the finals performance of the same year though boys ;)

I reckon their a big time threat.
They'll win 10 games at AAMI
They'll win 3 games in Melbourne
They have already won in Perth.

Will finish with 14 wins and a 5th spot is theirs.

Backline dodgy against a side with 2-3 top key forwards (i.e. St. Kilda) BUT have explosive pace, excellent midfield, and a potent forwardline which would be even better if Tredrea was fit.

Definitely a top 8 side, but couldn't see them going all the way.

Doesn't stop us from beating St Kilda every time we play them

Flag No (but yeah, nah)!!! Finals yep i had them in, the only thing that would stop them is injuries...

They have a great mix of players

Rucks = Close to the best combo in the league.
Mids = Top 3 in the league, with the emergence of Shaun alot of people forget just how good Peter is. Fully fit he is a gun. Pearce is going to be a handfull for every team this season (and the next 10).
Backs = The Best CHB in the biz and a aging but still good FB.
Forwards = Tredrea is quality and Ebert is a gun, with Rodan and Motlop they look good.

Even if Tredrea goes down they proved they could win without him, now if they lost Chad Cornes, things would be different, I believe he is there most important player by a long way. He is the difference between August and September for Port

whoaaah there nelly. pull the reins in a bit.

Nothing is impossible, but Port winning the flag in '07 is pretty close to it.

We are seriously lacking in the forward line at this moment in time. We need a decent consistent crumber and a fast leading accurate full forward (besides Tredrea). There are players on our list who may be able to fill this role in the future but not right now ... consistently.

Our back line is also suspect. Wakelin is getting slower. Chaplin isn't strong enough yet and Chad is not a tight checker. Thurstans and Pettigrew - still massive doubts.

Our midfield is our strength but is still to prove itself on a consistent basis. Players like Shaun Burgoyne, Danyle Pearce and Steven Salopek have yet to prove they can shake a close tag - the Richmond game last year a perfect example. They have been around (in the midfield) for all of 12 months, they have a long way to go before they could be considered capable of being a premiership winning midfield, but it is in the making.

The main word I've mentioned is consistency. What people saw on Saturday wont happen every week. We will lose games that most suspect we will win.

Port are 2-3 years away from being a contender. 8-12 for '07

You never know your luck in the big city.
Forget treadrea its brogan thats vital to port. Last season we won every game that he played in. If he is fit then we should make the 8 then who knows.
Port remind me a bit of the baby bombers. We have some very good experienced premiership players (burgers, cornes, lade etc) then we have some real talented juniors but not much in between. Very few players 22-26 with say 50-100 games experience.

Didn't stop West Coast from winning a flag.. it was early in the season last year when everyone said, they wont win a flag without a decent foward line. There midfield and the improvement of Lynch got them home in the end. With Tredrea, Motlop, White, Lade and Mahoney up in attack our foward line still looks dangerous. However i do agree with everything else you said.

If White improves at the same rate Lynch did, then it will go a long way.

WC also have the ability to throw Hunter up there for a massive injection of forward line potency. We could do that with Chad but he cant be everywhere, and that's the point - depth of proven, consistent talent. WC have it. We don't. Yet.

WC's midfield is also a couple of years ahead of ours.

What i saw last week against Freo is a team who without 2 of its best 5 players make a massive comeback away from home put in a overall impressive performance. They are strong in alot of positions. Alot of good tall backmen with Cornes Wakelin Chaplin and also Pettigrew Thurstans to lend a hand. Good forward line. Ebert is a gun. You have Tredrea White who is coming along and Lade who rests down there with Brogan rucking. Good ruck combo with Brogan/Lade and I believe one of the best 3 midfields in the league with alot of good players running through there. Personally I think Eagles v Port Adelaide will be the Grand Final this year. Do you think its a chance or am i rating Port too highly

They might make the finals but i cant see them playing in the grannie.

We are the #1 clearance team in the comp atm, our midfield with ruck combo or Brogan/Lade is just about as good as it gets. What we need to make serious inraods is a fit Tredrea and functioning forward line & Chaplin and Thurstans to relieve some pressure from Cornes and Wakelin. Choco has made a lot of the hard decisions with some players and is playing the guys that need to be played. I think people are being naive to say we cant, i think many of my fellow supporters are trying to take the spotlight away from us. What we have that many rebuilding clubs haven't, is a core of Tredrea/Wakelin/Wilson/Cornes bros./Burgoyne bros./Lade/Brogan to build the youngsters around. It helps when u have quality experience at all ends of the ground to help develop ur youth and our youngs would've benefited no ends feeding off these guys for the past couple of years.

May not need a forwardline, but can you honestly say you have a midfield which would even come close to ours. Worry about making the 8, then see what happens.
