If you can’t pass then you are not going to go anywhere in modern football.

The problem is that a draw to go through means nothing if we play this s**t.
when Australia got through to the knockout stage of the World Cup we were playing football. I don’t know what this s**t is.
The midfield in particular has been atrocious. Can’t get a foot on the ball and then just give it away as soon as they do get it. Badly missing someone who can control the tempo.
Atkinson getting rubbed out has hurt badly too.
As good as we were against Argentina we’ve been dismal since, no flair.

The goalkeeper and defenders need to be able to pass to a team mate more than 5 metres away. Obviously this is not being drilled down in the junior leagues as it’s more about athleticism. Athleticism will not get you very far if you have poor tactical awareness and poor technical skills.
This has been our problem for a very long time though.
Even in our golden age in the early 00s and WC 2006, our "skills" were still nowhere near the quality nations.
Secondly, we have no attacking flair or creativity, we are an incredibly boring side to watch because no one is good enough to take defenders on or pass through them.
