Best XI of the 1980's (interactive voting thread)

I thought it was being synonymous with a decade. Warne makes both my 90's & 00's teams
The thing is, even though Warney played a good chunk of the 2000's, his peak was definitely in the 90's. Warne stopped bowling the flipper after a while & of course was banned for a full year after that whole doping scandal.

1980's All-star XI (batting order subject to change)

01
02
03 IVA Richards
04 AR Border
05 Javed Miandad
06
07
08
09 RJ Hadlee
10 MD Marshall
11 Abdul Qadir

Qadir waltzes his way into the side whilst Sir Richard emerges in front of Whispering Death. Man this side is going to have shedloads of #batdeep.

Time to sort out the opener's slots. Please select two OPENING BATSMEN.

hard to go past greenidge and haynes.

Still among top 4 bowlers in 00's. With exception of Tendulkar also probably won't be much overlap for any of these sides

in that case I'm going to do a left field move to get around this. Gooch and Boon I was thinking to partner Greenidge as an opener but struggle to decide between Gooch and Boon but I will claim Boon now as a spinner, that opens the batting :) Sorry, Goochy, you are now not going to be voted for by me.

Yes, Boon as spinner is completely left field. I like it tho

ha ha. It was out of sheer desperation as did not really want to be forced to pick a specialist spinner when none in the decade really stand out to me over the pace bowlers and Botham. Boonie bowled some nude spin mainly in some ODI. God it was crap but it was still called spin on the tv coverage when describing the type of bowler he was. I think Wessels got a run at one point too.

More West Indians, the dynamic duo, Greenidge and Haynes

Not as 4 and I think his average inflated by more games on Pakistan decks which favour batsmen compared to Crowe in New Zealand where seam tends to make it tough on batsmen to average high.
Definitely more games in Pakistan but he averaged 77 in New Zealand while playing against Hadlee. About Two thirds of his innings were at No 4. Crowe's were about three quarters of his innings.

I would post the video of him knocking over Phil Emery at the MCG in 1995, but previous experience tells me that it would probably be blocked.

PS I apologise for bringing down the tone of this thread by mentioning the name Phil Emery in it.

Go for it, my favourite wicket from a non bowler is this one:

Might be left field but would there be any love for Mo Matthews at 7?

Averaged high 40’s with the ball but averaged low 40’s with the bat.

Just occurred to me that if we ever get around to doing 2010s team, then Seedsfan can see Warner selected as opener for decade

He's been in the news recently as well.

Greenidge & Haynes look pretty immovable at the top, giving us an all-Windies top three...

1980's All-star XI (batting order subject to change)

02 DL Haynes
03 IVA Richards
04 AR Border

Next two positions to fill are WICKETKEEPER along with an additional BOWLER who can be considered to be a genuine wicket taking threat (pace or spin, allrounder or otherwise).
