I can not believe so many want this man to get too 300 games so bad that they are willing to accept his sulking behaviour which will set such a bad example to the young group we have!! Tonight was the final straw for me! we retired Simmo who gave his ****ing all for this club and should have been made captain when this big headed sook boy got the job! Simmo set examples and this guy sooked to the media when dropped earlier in the year which in my eyes is total disrespect to the coach and players!!! The 300 game mark should be an honour you make on merit and lets be fair he is not deserving of sharing this honour with Bradley, Doull, Nicholls Simpson and SOS! He stayed with us during shit times i cant deny but we do not owe this man a thing! He wasnt paid peanuts to stay and he should feel privileged to have worn our jumper as many as he did! What message did that sitting on the bench sulking tonight show to our playing group?? This honour is a ME ME ME thing and its something we should never stand for!

Uh no, Simpson would've slotted in nicely in any team. Probably would've been a lot more effective too, his courage would've been lauded even moreso.

He was a Kenny type player… slightly built, but hard at the ball… wringing every spec of talent he had out of his body. Would definitely had the back pocket sewn up behind Kenny on the back flank.

Can’t blame him at all. Did something most of us only dream of… pulling on the navy blue and running out for the club. Admittedly for the reserves, but it is probably closer than most us have gotten.

So supposing we scrape past Gold Coast next week (299 ticked off), can the MC justify picking Murphy - even as medical sub - in a “must win to make finals” game against Port?

Perhaps they “manage” him, with a view to a farewell 300 the following week. But what if we do beat Port? And have another must win game against GWS?

I see we left Carrazzo on 194, Hanna 190, Kreuzer 189, not to mention John James and Bruce Comben also in this range. Kouta walked at 278.

So many champions walked when they were done or got tapped on the shoulder. So many between 200 and 300 games.

This is Carlton - football operations are a very distant last in consideration first and foremost is board members favourites who they would just love to see get their 300....or marketing, or whatever it is - but its complete bull.

Let's be honest, we had to hold off subbing out TDK because Murph is cooked and can't be subbed in before half time. Get him to 300 and be done with it I guess.

We didn't sub TDK because we didn't have a ruckman. Gave him as much time to see if he could overcome the injury. Nothing to do with Murphy.

He shouldn’t have, though, because he should have been dropped several seasons ago until he would do the hard things/chase/tackle at the required standard and probably should be on circa 260 games and we wouldn’t be having this convo.

The selection integrity was ****ed up ages ago and is one of our many deep cultural problems. Right now I think it would be unnecessarily mean and do more harm than good to deny Murph 300.

He was beyond terrible but that's to be expected as he's been getting worse for a long time. Having a sub that you can't use for a quarter isn't ideal but we're not going to start a team first attitude at this point. Will be very interesting if we win this week and very slim finals chances are still alive whether he spends his whole 300th riding the pine.

Playing country league footy as a kid while I was playing Under 16s in the morning, I used to back up and play reserve grade for the big blokes when they were short on numbers. If they were really short on numbers, they'd ask a recently "retired" club favourite to pull the jumper back on (which usually didn't cover the beer gut entirely) to stand in a forward pocket to make up the numbers. That bloke is Murph.

Finals are still possible. It is crazy that we’re even talking about gifting a game to a liability, given that context. I just cannot believe it.

Hopefully with Smurph's retirement the attitude that has permeated its way into the club for so long will disappear .... I have/had a lot of respect for Smurph ... but he should of pulled the pin last year ... I look at the other 300 members at our club and he just sticks out like a sore thumb.

He has done his legacy zero favours by getting to 300 anyway he can. His behaviour and let's be honest ME attitude has really woken me up to the fact that a lot of the cultural issues at the club seem to be embodied in his actions this year.

As captain could he have been a poison chalice and as a club leader poisoned the well of great youth we had coming up?

I honestly have a lot of questions about Murphy's time at the club now. Questions I would not have had if he retired last year. And that's a real shame to me.
