Patrick Cripps on the other hand ? Oliver is so far and away the better player it's not funny. Oliver isn't far off being the best player in the competition.

Yeah but Cripps actually was the best player in the competition when those comparisons were made. Its the same as Bailey Smith vs Sam Walsh comparisons... Is Walsh clearly the better player? Yea... But give it 2-3 more years and he'll be turned into a plodder from carrying a club for 6 years solo
So stringer and Fritsch miss? It's alot harder to play as a fwd, where the opposition density is high, they are constantly outnumbered, lack of space, compared to a mid who never gets tagged. Bont is the only mid that's kicked a decent amount of goals, but he's got to be ruck rover. McCrae and petracca are bench

No that would be Bont. Oliver is a one dimensional player whos extremely good inside. Will he make another handful of AA's? probably but he will never be the best player in the comp if I had to guess. The very best have more strings to their game

He is better than extremely good inside, he is clearly the best inside player in the league. And he isn't one dimensional at all
On 2021 form he is clearly in the best 2 players in the league
Cripps was always one dimensional with no hurt factor. Since his inside play dropped he has no other strings. Oliver can take a contested mark and has break away speed.

Cripps, who was a better inside player and kicked more goals and took more contested marks was one dimensional.... but Clarry isnt... what????
Don't get me wrong, Cripps has fallen off a cliff the last 2 years but at his best he was better than any season Clarry has produced. Don't try to rewrite history

Based on today? Most of the gun mids have been great this weekend. All of Oliver, Steele, Miller, Macrae, Petracca, Walsh have had huge games.

Probably next in line behind Oliver, Walsh, Bont, Macrae, Miller, Petracca, Wines, Steele. I had Parish ahead but he’s not had a great few weeks.

Errrrr Cripps averages .67 contested marks a game. Oliver .21. cripps averages over 3 times more than oliver. And cripps Has averaged more goals than oliver. And yes, Cripps has had a crap season.

I wouldn’t have picked contested marking or goal kicking to push Oliver’s case over Cripps either. Cripps is superior in those areas but so he should be better at contested marking at his height and size and playing around significantly shorter players.
Oliver is a better field kick now than Cripps has ever been (not that Oliver is great but he’s much improved) and Oliver is faster and spreads better too. Again you’d expect Oliver to be faster given he’s almost 10cm shorter than Cripps.

Oliver is having a wonderful year and clearly currently a better player. Just pointing out that comparison was a bit ridiculous. Cripps is clearly hampered with an ongoing injury and has fallen so far as a contested player.

You could just about say the same thing for Merrett and Essendon to be honest, he’s been enormous this year.
