Before we part ways with Coffield, we have to roll him through the middle. 6'3, quick over the first 5-10m and a decent side step. Has all of the physical tools to be a big bodied inside/out mid. Reminds me so much of Elliot Yeo early in his career

How on earth can they do that when he is on the books for another year , unless he is willing to not get paid for his last year and I doubt that - who would give up 800k
Maybe they said you have gotten 2.5 mill for 12 games, thats equivilent to a 5 mill full season, hoping he had been on the Columbian marching powder and it sounded reasonable?

Exactly , part of his development was working his way from defense to midfield - still along way to go for this 21yr old , has silky skills and would be great running through the midfield or wing when the considering him ready for it.

I think his decision making and composure needs to get a lot better before he's given midfield minutes

I'd be very surprised if we were even considering it.

Seems like a kid who was very happy with his performance last year and assumed it would just carry onto this year. Should be the wake-up call he needs to have a big preseason, get fitter and get back to form next year.

Dead right , some of these rumors are a joke

You'd hope so, I just think he's one of those players that performs better with the coach's trust, which we saw last year and is typical of a young bloke finding his way. He does seem to be out of favour with Ratts. There are some player's who seem to have more opportunities despite making some similarly costly errors.
Hopefully a big preseason ahead.

Sometimes the best development happens when being thrust into the role. Sink or swim, so to speak.

A lot of these young kids get thrown into roles in the seniors only because they can fit in there.
For instance are Clark , Bytel , Byrne , Coffield going to be given a go in the midfield when you have Ross and Dunstan playing in the midfield.
Also due to the few VFL games played they can't even get the the development in the 2s that they need.

Which is a development and coaching flaw. It's up to the coaching group to identify players with scope for growth in certain role and develop them accordingly. Something that we've been terrible at, is introducing a young player as a flanker or a pocket, and leaving him there for the majority of his career.

2 years of nearly no 2nds football has stuffed up a few kids

How are we supposed to develop players when there has been no 2s for two years basically?

Matt Parker, as he did with stkilda often,
Looks like a good vfl player. There is a reason he is paying in a team that has lost 6 of their last 7….he ain’t any good
Yep - everyone knows you'll never win a premiership unless you've got 40+ AA players on your list.
