Australia tour of Bangladesh 2021

my observations from the first 3 T20's was our batting was slowly getting better each game.......i think they first couple of games they struggled to adapt to the conditions./
If anything it got worse.
Wade, Carey, Philippe, Henriques and Turner all averaged below 10.

I'd say they got better at using their wrists and milking runs and were less inclined to swipe at everything. Tonight was the worst Australian performance I've ever seen though. They hit three catches, very softly, straight to short cover ffs

Feel like on subcontinent wickets, sometimes you need to grind out innings. Sometimes it takes 6-8 balls just to get a feel for the wicket and conditions.

Also the players weren't willing to nudge singles and 2's tonight.

That would be the frustrating thing about tonights performance, no sense of adjusting to the game situation.

I'm going to say this as well, if we played that in India last night with those two very same sides, Id back Bangladesh to win as well. And I have to admit their spinners bowled better than the Australian spinners.

A lot of soul searching to do . With a T20 on this year, I think its come to the realisation our 2nd string team can't do the job against quality spin attacks. Part of that reason is in the Big Bash, you don't see those types of wickets and/or conditions.

In a word.. Woeful!
Oh Aussies. Our lowest ever T20/I score. Hang your heads. None of these players should get a world cup berth. Finch included. CA needs to do some research and pick the best players of spin from the past three BBLs. I am talking about blokes that can read a spinner, uses the full crease and their feet to loft (not slog sweep). One that springs to mind is Josh Inglis. Tassie has Mac Wright. Maxwell and Handscomb are also decent players of spin. That is four to start off your search CA.

Someone answer a baffling question for me. WHY did CA spend three years and tonnes of time and money on building sub continental type decks up at the NCC? A totally futile exercise as our so called elite cricketers still dont have the faintest bloody clue how to play a spinner correctly and effectively. Useless rabble have embarrassed us again. The funny thing is I dont see much better in our regulars. Only Smith and Maxwell are competent players of spin. Labuchagne is passable. He needs to come into WC reckoning as does Josh Inglis and Peter Handscomb..

This is our best team:
Warner
Finch c
Smith
Maxwell
Stoinis
Marsh
Inglis
Agar
Starc
Zampa
Hazlewood

Reserves:
Wade, Marnus, Carey, Turner, Sams, Tye, J Richardson, Cummins, K Richardson, Swepson, T Sangha

Our lack of batting depth is now concerning. Do we go back to a Short, Lynn or even a more experienced Khawaja despite his form?

i guess deep down we knew most of these guys weren't getting picked for the world cup (and if they were they were the bench players).

it's the batting that's the real concern and from this squad only finch (inj), marsh and a keeper (which ever one we choose) - should make the world cup squad.

surely warner, smith, maxwell, stoinis and possibly labuschagne walk into the side.

having cummins and the 2 richardson boys about will also help.

it highlights how bad batting is in australia at the moment - highlighted by the fact only real batsmen on australia's contracted list.

What this series and our recent 5 series losses in this format shows is the Big Bash standards has fallen....the quality of cricket is probably not as good as what the media and public make out to be.
I've been saying this for some time and emphasised the fact that to CA and the fans they don't care about the quality and/or wouldn't know how much higher quality international cricket has become. This was confirmed by the boss of the BBL Alistair Dobson in this article:

A lot of reserves.. warming benches. CA needs to rotate if form is shocking in early matches.

Our best team for non sub continental conditions and pitches. Kane Richo is one of my bowlers. Jhye also. Why do we constantly have to keep picking our Test attack for white ball cricket. OK Hazlewood has done well on these tours but he like Cummins are not specialists in this format..Starc is so a lock. Ellis is my smokie as he is a clever white ball bowler. Being the UAE we have to pick plenty of spin options. Where are all our slow bowling all rounders.. cupboard is bare. Closest are Maxwell, Ashton Agar and Turner. Turner looks to be poor against spin. So not taking him. How about Darcy Short. Can be destructive with bat and his chinaman bowling is not that shabby. Matt Short may also be a consideration.
In the 2020 IPL played in the UAE the top 4 wicket takers were pace bowlers (Rabada, Bumrah, Boult, Nortje) and the man of the tournament was another pace bowler in Jofra Archer. The pitches that were produced for this series are not going to be what they are for the World Cup.

Matthew Wade's quote about the innings was “Great learning for youngsters,” seems a little optimistic, seeing they really only lasted a couple of balls. Hard to learn much in a fleeting moment, except, "I need to get a lot better at playing spin."
The preparation of pitches needs to be investigated. At the moment with the drop in pitches they pretty much play the same. No real variety like their used to be.
I would suggest that every potential player should spend time at the NCC, with a batting coach from the sub continent tutoring them. Try a few out and find out from the players which one is the most effective for them and then sign them up long term. Why go to the expense of importing soil from the sub continent, to make these pitches and then fail to make proper use of them?

A minimum bench spot.
I had Hazlewood no where near the side, but in these last tours he's impressed so there's no reason why he shouldn't be picked

Finch
Warner
Smith (Labs if Smith isn't fit)
Maxwell
Marsh
Inglis
Agar
Cummins
Starc
Zampa
Hazlewood/K.Richardson/Ellis

Leaning towards Ellis to be honest as he is one of the few guys that mixes up variations at the death.

Why wouldn't you add Cameron Green to the squad?

Ellis T20 record playing in the BBL playing against these same guys who can barely string a run together at international level hardly screams death bowler at a World Cup to me but I really like the rest of your side.

Daniel Sams is an interesting one, he can bat at 7 and finish the innings, and be the fifth bowler, whether that's as the 2nd quick or 3rd quick depending on conditions.
