Bit like the AFL season, its a (heavily) compromised draw now but at the end of the season the best team will win it. Not ideal at all but I'm not sure what is the solution without extending the season.

Fair call SMY. The reality is a team in top 2 generally wins the premiership. This chat about getting either a top 6 or 8 is a complete distraction to reality of real premiership chances

Just think its a terrible time for a lot of people being forced to make decisions - our federal and state politicians have got it wrong regularly over the last 18 months and they get paid a hell of alot more and have far more support than people at AFLQ.

Is it though?

Pretty clear top 8. 6th has beaten 3rd twice. 7th has beaten 1st, 2nd and 6th twice. Arguably the most unlucky is PBC in 8th, who only play Noosa and Grange once, have only played 13 games compared to other teams 14 games and beaten 3 teams above them.

As an outside observer, I reckon 7th and 8th are better chances to win it than 5th or 6th. But if the rationale to to get the season over as quick as possible and reward the best teams, then just to go Top 4 and get on with it.

End of the day, had all 18 rounds been played out - almost certain that a different Top 6 would have been in finals that what will be there if they stick with that.

Yeah that's all fair too I reckon Miller. Agree - 7th and 8th might be stiff but not sure either would be premiership chances nor would 5th and 6th.

For 7 years straight in the revamped QAFL teams that finished in ladder positions 1 v 2 has played off in the grand final?

Not correct.

2014, 2015, 2016 wasnt top 2 in GF, maybe not 18 either though I cant remember. I know we finished 2nd in 2015, had our home finals taken off us and got knocked out in straight sets.

Then in 2016 we finished 3rd, went down to Palmy and beat them, then had our home Prelim taken off us and got flogged.

But even if it were correct, what is the goal here?

Would have thought desired outcomes are more footy being played, more revenue into club land via more home finals and all clubs that were in the hunt for finals pre lockdown, get to play finals.

All this achieved without having to extend season or change bookings at grounds or anything.

There literally isn't a reason outlined by anyone I've seen why you wouldnt do this.

the most compelling reason not to do it is that all agreed on a top 6 with a four week finals series at the start of the year.

I can see why Lab definitely wouldn’t want it, they finished first (possibly aided by playing one more game than the cats) but first in a top six only has to win 1 game to get into a GF rather than 2. They wouldn’t get the benefit of additional home finals either.

Plus the benefit (sorry Thommo) of no magpies being the only team that beat Broady and lab

Nice try Fan, but no cigar.
I was just pointing out that top end of the ladder generally plays in GF whether top 4, 6 or 8 finals. I just had a check and:
2020 1st Broady v 2nd Morningside
2019 1st Palmy v 2nd Surfers
2018 1st Palmy v 2nd Broady
2017 1st Labrador v 2nd Palmy
2016 1st Labrador v 2nd Palmy
I stand corrected by Thommo on 2015 but it was still won by Labrador who finished 1st
 
First decent counter argument presented, though it does contain a bit of spite (not deliberately)

CLubs agreed at start of year for 18 rounds too, so once that is out the window, so is any agreement for Top 6.

If anything, it should be Top 4 or Top 8

All 4 of the QLD club forums (QAFL, QFA Div1, QFA Div 2 North & QFA Div 4&5) that I follow are good fun with different personalities. I know a few people who don't ever post but absolutely love the banter.

I must say though this one gets raided by Academy & pathway heavies every so often pressing their agenda too

Fair to say Sherwood's ground/surface is in good condition now days Thommo, plus had the changerooms upgrade since also
