They spent the first minute and 40 seconds showing the club shop and other images around the stadium and then Lionel Messi standing on the pitch like a ******* idiot for about 4 seconds. I still can’t tell if that is really Lionel Messi because it looks like a promo image of Messi from FIFA.

Matchday corporate revenue will increase significantly and that's about it in terms of direct income. Commercial income I don't see it. It is Ligue 1 after all and all existing sponsorship deals are already agreed Messi or no Messi. Shirt sales will obviously be significant but they go to the kit manufacturer (Nike) who has already paid PSG for the right to sell them. This does expire at the end of the season and it will be interesting to see what new kit deal PSG get with Messi being a short term signing. TV rights are already done for Ligue (secured by Amazon in June) so that benefit goes mostly to Amazon and any extra will go to all clubs in the league.


I think we will probably see a breakdown by a football finance expert soon in the coming weeks on this deal Swiss ramble style.

When it comes time to renew commercial deals or sign new ones it will. The amount of coverage they are generating today is worth $'s in these deals. The deal wont pay for itself but bringing in a mega signing like that will bring in more commercial revenue. Same with Ronaldo at Juventus. They had stars and won many titles but bringing in a worldwide star that transcends the sport is massive even if on the pitch results don't improve drastically.

All of their commercial deals are signed long term apart from the kit deal. Juve isn't comparable as commercially Serie A is far more attractive than Ligue 1 to potential commercial partners. Messi does not change that one bit.


Very unlikely the new kit deal in 2022 for PSG will see Messi make a significant difference as he will only be around for another season by that stage. Perhaps PSG could negotiate extra for Messi jersey sales although I suspect Messi will want a bit part of that for the one season he will be around under the new kit deal.


PSG already had the world's biggest star in Mbappe. Who incidentally is still not putting pen to paper on a new contract with 12 months remaining on his current deal.


There's a reason why only PSG were willing to do this deal and no other clubs even bothered. It's a huge financial burden and the question has to be asked why Messi was prepared to play for Barca on 50% of the wages he gets at PSG. Ronaldo at Juve at least made a significant impact on winning two league titles. PSG were already winning Ligue 1 at a cakewalk this season with financial issues for most clubs and Lille being picked apart.

Messi is on a different level to them both.

I was at the barber this morning and I kid you not it was spoken about by 3 different people who walked in. The first two not major followers of the sport. They were talking about PSG and now know something about them for the first time. The third was a Spaniard from Barca who was pretty gutted.

To all of us yeah sure we know how great Neymar and Mbappe is. But if you had to show a picture of Mbappe to 1,000 random people and say name this man I think a lot less would get it right compared to if you showed Messi or Ronaldo's face.

Shit between advising the Vic govt not to build the East-West tunnel because nobody travels those directions for work and being part of all of PSG's commercial deal negotiations how do you have any time to spend on here?

Kit deals are a % of revenue generated from kits sold. So if they sale 10% more kits this year to last year they get 10% more. Even if they don't re-negotiate a Messi % increase

Forget re-negotiating existing deals although I suspect that will happen.

There'll be plenty of new companies looking to form an association with the club that has Messi play for it.

What's the story with kit sale percentages? Of course they'll sell more kits this season, that goes without saying. Nike are already paying a record amount to be the kit sponsor for PSG. 80m euros per season until 2032 to be precise. Why would they give up extra revenue just because Messi has signed? And if they did yes you are correct it would likely be only a small percentage (10% like you claim).

At least you are getting the part about the deal not being financially viable correct.
