I think its just suspicion based on last years events. Victoria stopped submitting samples under the guise of it been 'evidence for the official inquiry', but I was putting up Nextstrain trees that showed months before the official inquiry completed that there were multiple sources of Victoria's outbreaks. These could be inferred because prior to the first sample being recorded, there were no known record of any other case in Australia genomically, and we knew about 2 HQ breaches.

I think I suggested there could have been 4 breaches from what I saw and understood in the Nextstrain tree, (in the end there were 3 separate breaches over a 6 week period, only 2 of which were publicly known about at the time).

So I just find it odd to go from weekly submissions and really good transparency, to no submissions in a month and a very quiet response to the discovery of sources for clusters. They sat on the Moonee Ponds testing site source for several days until a journalist asked about it, and we haven't heard anything new about the current outbreak, other than some vague "it looks to be linked to NSW".

I think its important we know if others returning from NSW have breached the rules and spread it in unknown clusters, or if it's all linked back to the removalists or Coles family cluster and we've missed a link somewhere. All of this should influence policy decisions in the future, but it may be a moot point as this outbreak doesn't look to be controllable now.

I personally don't care. My view is that lockdowns cause more harm than covid, especially when our vulnerable have had ample time to be vaccinated.

Who determines the legitimacy of a cause?

You know as well as I do that there would have been violence at the BLM protest if the cops were heavy handed.

Victoria police say they arrested 218 people at today’s anti lockdown protest.

Six police officers were hospitalised. Two with broken noses, one with a broken thumb and others with concussion.

Police said in a statement the majority of the estimated 4,000 demonstrators “came with violence in mind”.

“The behaviour seen by police was so hostile and aggressive that they were left with no choice but to use all tactics available to them,” the statement said.

Police said they had, for the first time during a lockdown protest, used non-lethal tactics that included rounds of pepper spray projectiles and canisters.
