Love the 16 flags line…it’s the perfect thing to say.

He walks a really good line in terms of acknowledging where we are at as a club but mixed with a bit of We are Essendon, * you.

For me the best indication of how well we're going is the form of Cutler and Snelling. You always see these bit part players pop up and find good form in a club that is working well. You remember how good Blumfield, Moorcroft and Heffernan looked in that 2000 team, but how ordinary they looked at Richmond and Melbourne.

On top of that Smith has dropped the selfish stuff. Laverde, Stewart and Langford are all coming good. Parish has had a break out year. Kids are easing into the side. On top of the Shiel and McGrath have come back strongly after long lay-offs.

Truck has done an amazing job and the club's talent and options run deep. Lets see the club back in Dodoro to hit the next two drafts and build a team that picks players from the draft and adds value to them. Lets become a club that trades players out. Ones we got in the 3rd round being worth 2nd rounders and occasionally 1st rounders. That should keep the talent pouring in to keep us competitive for a long time.

Winning premierships are great, however, not being a rabble should be the baseline. It seems like we've finally achieved that after 15 years!!

The Essendon of old would have dropped many of them - and buttered it up by pointing to the odd 2 or 4 teams in the 8 that we've pipped (but never going anywhere) - like the Hawks of today.

I know a few will quote this and say "that shows we're a middle of the road side" but for some reason our supporters seem to think we've struggled to beat sides that we should for the past few years.

Beating them by big margins
Being competitive against some of the sides above us
Making finals with a run of form
Doing all of this with a younger list

I'd say those are pretty good indicators that separate us from the Essendon of old, and many of the sides below us, and while it comes at the cost of not beating many sides above us (whereas the Essendon of old would have bagged a couple, providing momentary relief), it parlays more into the optimistic signs for the future for long-term success.

Also, I don't think we can overlook losing to the wooden spooners in both 2017 and 2018 as finals contenders. In 2019 we fell over the line against Gold Coast. Even last year we only beat Adelaide by 3 points. If that isn't struggling then I don't know what is.

My apologies, I forgot the Dogs missed the top 8 in 2018. Still, 9-3 against sides outside the top 8 is hardly terrible, compared to 3-7 against top 8 sides, no?

We consistently beat teams outside the top 8 under Woosha. Fact. We consistently lost top top 8 sides under Woosha. Fact. We have done so the same this season. Fact.

Seriously, I'm not saying Truck is a bad coach and that this year hasn't exceeded my expectations, it has. I'm just trying to get people to acknowledge that we've been beating bottom 10 sides pretty consistently over the past 5 years. Can you admit that?
