I genuinely think he's the worst captain the club has ever had.

Offers nothing.

I remember back in 2014 when Van Berlo was out for the year and Sloane and Danger shared captaincy duties and it was the most uninspiring captaincy the club had experienced, they were both really poor. It's unfair to say they were young, they were 24 at the time, they just don't have leadership skills. Outstanding players in their prime but the way we played that year made me believe that they could not engage the playing group.

Geelong never asked Duckwood step aside so Paddy could have a go, they could see it with Paddy but we decided to go Sloane when the next leader of the team was Talia. I hope for the good of the team he steps down from that position or Nicks tells him to because we shouldn't keep doubling down on what was a poor decision in the first place

It’s surprising, I thought he’d make a fantastic captain.

He doesn't really come across as a 'considered' type person. Definitely the type of guy that you want geeing you up if you want to attempt something possible, but he doesn't come across as the leader that would say, "mate, there's no way you're jumping across that, you'll die".

It does feel like a logical moment to hand the captaincy to the newer generation.
It's actually an integral piece in a rebuild as it lifts the new crew from being junior to the existing seniors. Empowerment is a strong motivator.
There were several times late in the year which had this feel about the team.
I just hope Rory can "read the room" and identify he should step down.

Probably reading too much into it but the way Nicks and Doedee stopped to have a chat before heading into dressing room together felt like they are the leadership combo going forward.

yeah well after talia went whack at the club Rooch called him out on it called it a drive by and then he backtracked his comments a little....incredibly disappointing from talia but I think he’s not come to the realisation yet, he was a heart and soul player for the club, IMO shouldn’t of done the interview At this time too early and should have waited a little longer to come to terms with the clubs decision.
It was Kym Dillon who called it a "drive-by" and then changed it to an "honest clip". Dillon is a bit of tosser from way back, seen him pissed in the high rollers at the casino on a few occasions. Talia did come off as a bit salty and contradictory when he said "the club needs to be aggressive in where they are going and where they rebuild" and then states the club are "being really agressive about it and whether that's the right call or not". Which is it? The part I'm interested in is the cultural stuff. What is he talking about here? Ironically it's likely the senior brigade being divisive of which he is one. This is the part I feel he is likely being truthful about. I don't really have a problem with him not going to the b & f. If he's pissed off I don't want him contaminating the young blokes. He's doing the right thing not attending.

I feel Rory more the VB type that will force the club to remove the captaincy from him. That said, it's an exceedingly rare event, so VB was very special in that regard. At best, Rory hands it back after next season.

I think it's fair enough that he doesn't want to go to the bnf. If you wanted to keep being employed by someone and management told you it's time to leave come year's end, would you want to go to the Christmas show when all the management staff would be there?

If you've worked there 12+ years, probably.
That said depends what conversations were had.

To me its pretty pathetic.

That Brad continues to get blamed for Stengle being out on a coke bender amuses me given what followed. It's just as likely Stengle had Brad out on a bender. It's weird ageism, noth8ng more. It just must have been the older guy corrupting the younger guy. Obviously Stengle hadn't ever seen cocaine until Brad dragged him to that alleyway that morning.

I have it on bulletproof authority that Stengle was trouble at Richmond as well, so that is a very fair rationale.

Haven’t been able to find the Jake Lever photo as of yet
Haha! Was thinking the same thing!

As an aside, I enjoyed that gallery of photo's more than I thought I would. Top initiative.

Great to see big Rehn'y get involved. Got a bit excited seeing Porps again also. One of my all time faves.

Playing AFL isn’t a normal job though; the end comes around this time for every player.

He’s just well and truly thrown the toys out of his well-padded cot.

40-50% of the league would do coke. Let's not be naive.
Have heard a lot of people say comments like this, or similar high amount.

Is there any proof that it would be that high, or just an assumption? If so, why would it be. Certainly 40-50% of the general public wouldn't be doing it.

Because the average 18-28yo wouldn’t have the money these guys do would be my guess.

Dunno if it’s that high, but it certainly wouldn’t shock me.

I also wouldn’t say it’s an AFL thing either, only reflective of society, with the condition that AFL players have more disposable income so they are more likely to afford it and purchase it on a night out. Cocaine also leaves your system quickly so that’s a bonus and it doesn’t effect your fitness and skin folds the way 15 beers does.

Interesting discussion really. The things people do hey.

Almost 1 in 2 when you think about it. If I was a millionaire in my 20-30's I wouldn't even had thought about nose candy - would have found far more stupid things to waste it on probably.

Will Young...what might have been..

Been playing in Ballarat for North City for a few years now since returnibf from his overseas escapades, plays forward and usually hits the scoreboard.
