I did one for the non finalists last night.

The first 5 picks were relatively straight forward, after that Adelaide and Hawks received who I have as best available.

Carlton was a dilemma. They have a few inside mids, but none as good as Hobbs, apart from that Cripps bloke.

Fremantle I had a hard time deciding. They really need a KPF. More than any of the mids available at their selection. Ideally they would trade back a few spots if possible, and pick up some extra value. Anyway, seeing as I can’t trade their pick, they reached a little for Amiss.

  1. North Melbourne. Jason Horne.
  2. Collingwood. Nick Daicos. (Bid Matched)
  3. Western Bulldogs. Sam Darcy. (Bid Matched)
  4. GWS. Finn Callaghan.
  5. Gold Coast. Josh Gibcus.
  6. Adelaide. Neil Erasmus.
  7. Hawthorn. Josh Goater.
  8. Carlton. Ben Hobbs.
  9. Richmond. Josh Ward.
  10. Fremantle. Jye Amiss.
  11. St. Kilda. Tyler Sonsie.
  12. West Coast. Matthew Johnson.
  13. Essendon. Arlo Draper.
  14. GWS. Mac Andrew.
  15. Sydney. Mitch Knevitt.
  16. Brisbane. Josh Sinn.
  17. Richmond. Campbell Chesser.
  18. Port. Matthew Roberts.
  19. Brisbane. Josh Rachelle.

Why have you got the order wrong

1-north: Jason Horne-Francis
2-pies: Josh daicos (bid matched)
3-dogs: Sam Darcy (bid matched)
4-gws: Finn Callaghan
5-suns: Josh gibcus
6-crows: Matt roberts
7-hawks: Tyler sonsie
8-blues: Ben Hobbs
9-tigers: Josh Rachele
10-freo: Jye amiss
11-st.k: Josh sinn
12-Eagles: Neil erasmus
13-ess: Mac Andrew
14-gws: Campbell chesser
15-syd: arlo Draper
16-bris: Sam butler
17-Rich: Josh ward
18-Port: Josh goatee
19-Bris: Connor MacDonald

with very limited games this year it’s very hard to pick after the clear top 3. Pretty confident with Callaghan at 4 but who knows. Suns screaming out for some key defensive depth so think they go gibcus. Crows need mids, unsure if roberts is best available but an Adelaide boy so just makes sense. No idea where sonsie will end up, anywhere from 5-15 for me. Hobbs is your safe bet IMO, can’t go wrong with him and blues need help in the middle. Rachele is a bit of a wildcard which I think Richmond can afford to take. Amiss may be to high but there is a lack of key forwards early and the local boy makes sense for freo. The saints desperately need midfield class so could see them taking Erasmus, but sinn may be to good to pass up. Andrew to bombers makes sense with there stacked midfield. After that it’s a bit of a raffle IMO

Bombers have Draper and Bryan
makes little sense to take Andrew who looks best in the ruck I reckon
from your draft Draper looks a better fit

Maybe I'm not completely in the know, but it does feel like this draft seems more poorly defined compared to others due to a lack of footy over the last couple of years. Which is to say, I think there may be surprises in the crop.

  2. Western Bulldogs - Sam Darcy

Ive never really done any form of phantom draft before but i put that together.

4 - GWS - Josh Gibcus
14 - GWS - Jye Amiss

I would think that scenario is possible for GWS, if the draft order remained as it currently stands. However, I think that the Cerra trade will screw up that scenario, and Freo might take Erasmus with the Carlton pick they'll receive then Amiss with their own, before GWS can pick.

That’s my read of things, if Erasmus makes it to Fremantle’s first pick. I’d reckon Adelaide would be a strong change to take Erasmus.

Not sure Lions would consider Butler.

Johnson, Chesser, Wilmot and Wanganee-Milera.

As Suns fan I am intrigued by who GWS will take with pick 3. Most of you here have Callaghan as GWS choice. What is the chance they will go with Gibcus? GWS midfield is loaded, 2 defenders went down with ACLs. I guess they will go with the best player available. Both look great talent to me. I assume Suns would prefer Gibcus to boost defence stock.

I reckon they take Gibcus and Callaghan drops to the suns

60-40 at the moment.

Key Defender is a need, both from a perspective that Phil Davis is rapidly coming to the end of his career and that we have two with long term injuries, so Josh Gibcus a big chance.

But with pick 2 giving us a chance at Finn Callaghan, he would provide a point of difference to our other mids - a speedy balanced midfielder - and would be ''best available''. If we take him, we do need to work out who we could get for the KPD role, either in a trade, DFA, or a later trade back into the national draft.

We would realise Gibcus will be off the board with the pick after ours if GCS stay at pick 3; and several other clubs would be similarly minded if Suns trade their pick.

Could go either way IMHO at this point.
