Is Greg Williams as Footy Director a good thing? This has certainly come out of the blue so to speak.

I know he has been in and out of roles as a specialist skills coach and has mentored players previously, such as Neale and Merrett, but can anybody shed any light on what makes Diesel the ideal Footy Director? I know he has run a successful business and is direct and forthright with his opinions, but I am struggling to wrap my head around this appointment.

For me, only concern are his communication & media skills good enough to be successful at this type of job?

What is a boy's club? I mean, Liddle, Lloyd etc aren't girls. Is it because 2 of these guys used to play for Carlton, and for some reason we shouldn't have former successful players around the club because it feels too insular?

Surely, it has to be about ability? We've got players playing conditionally all the time and nobody that knows how to win is motivating them. We see players from other teams who are passionate about their team, club and guernsey. Do we?

Isnt one of the constant criticisms levelled at Liddle and Lloyd that they are mates, appointed without due process (Lloyd), too close etc?

How would that be any different if Lyon and SOS are appointed (mates), especially if there is a direct line of reporting there (admittedly speculating) and eventually being overseen by a premiership teammate in Williams?

Not to mention the fact we literally turfed one of them 12 months ago and now go back to that well again? I'd maybe get it if he was a standout List Manager / Department Head in the industry but he's not. He's been an integral part of the culture and performance of the football department that's under scrutiny and come to a head this year and giving him his job back with a mate coaching is just poor poor governance IMO.
