What a game, players gave so much in the 1st half they were always going to run out of steam and for the Swans to lose the game is just the luck of the game but that will always happen in some games
Perryman underrated in this game for his importance with some crucial moments none more than the rushed behind in the dying minutes
Sproule 2 clutch goals and shows his temperament
Mumford gave away a couple of silly frees but so powerful around the contest
Green with a couple of great handballs (not sure if both led to goals) and hoping the injury isnt too bad and he gets up for the next game
Coniglio quiet but 1st full game he will slowly build and should have more impact next game
MDB a good defensive game
Stein best game in his short career

Overall several players overperformed and for so many in a 1st final and the overall experience of the team it shows good signs for next year and I am sure most non supporters were surprised the Giants made the finals and most supporters will have the team as overperforming with getting to the semi

I will say congrats to Cameron as some of his moves made the win possible, players made it happen but the coaches decisions and motivations were important

This time, we've shattered them. An otherwise good season down the drain by a single point.

They were top 8 all year, we scrap in with a good run of form in the last three games. I can see why they felt like they should be shoe-ins, and those are the ones that hurt.

At some point the Swans are going to have to accept the obvious.

Namely, that sabotaging our Buddy trade and giving us Mummy + Heater instead was the greatest own goal in NSW/ACT AFL history.

Everything positive we feel about the legend that is Mummy is felt in reverse at the Swans, and it just shatters them.

We should keep playing Mummy twice a year as a specialist emergency sub for Derby games only because his mere name on the team sheet causes them PTSD.

Franklin's nine-year deal with the Swans is due to end next season, and if they don't win the flag with him then, it will be the irony of ironies they won in 2012 with Mummy, but never with Buddy.

I disagree.

Do you hang around waiting for the Melbourne Cup to finish and then tell everyone who backed the wrong horse that you disagree? Because that video angle was posted almost 24 hours after the post you're replying to, so clearly didn't have that at hand.

* sake, go over my posts and you'll see I reckon Toby touched him pretty consistently but trying to act like you're smarter because the media posted something after plenty of the same media were lauding a previous angle suggesting something different is just moronic.

What'd we think of Ash's game? That was one of his best games in his career so far for me thought he used the ball really well biting off some difficult kicks and seemed to nail all of them. For a guy thats billed as a speedster feel like we haven't got to see him turn it on and show it off from half back but I thought he had some really nice dashing moments too. Would like to see our half backs have more of a lisence to be aggressive I think sometimes they can be too conservative with their running, would be good to see more run and carry from that backline, Whitfield, Ash, Perryman, Cumming and Peatling (when he plays) all have the tools to do it but not sure the gameplan allows them to.

Ash showed his dash early in the season, but he seems to have lost it a little- hence why he was benched a couple of times during the season. He's come back with what is probably a more well-rounded and contested game, but like you, I'd like to see his dash off half back again. Certainly part of it comes down to gameplan.

Ash was outstanding, his kicking under pressure was pinpoint but most importantly he showed composure.

He continues to grow as a player and with another pre season under his belt will be an absolute gun.

Two kicks that stood were the kick to Hogan inside forward 50 right before halftime and the kick to Whitfield back into the corridor late in the fourth quarter, both were really difficult kicks and nailed them both.

The gameplan for the half backs is probably the main issue I have with Leon at the moment doesn't seem like they're given the same lisence as other half backs across the league to be really damaging and aggressive, would love to see more use of the corridor and run and carry. Think about how the Lions utilise Daniel Rich he's always trying really big and risky kicks, it sets up their transition attack so well and can catch teams completely with their pants down, I think thats the sort of player they should look to mold Cumming into.

The lions play a different game style. They have fast runners and speed on their list that allows them to. We don't have that on the list so our game plan needs to suit who we have not who we wish we had. Our midfielder strengths are clean hands and contested ball. We need a slower ball movement to cater for that.

What I have enjoyed this year has been the shifts in game style depending on the opposition. For example on the weekend we slowed the ball down and took pace off the game effectively. We can't win if its an open showdown with end to end stuff. But what we saw against Geelong a few rounds back was way faster ball movement to catch them out who like to control the ball and the pace of the game. Its really interesting and shows a growing maturity of the coaching staff and playing group IMO.

I don’t understand the use of Whitfield? He is generally one of our most damaging players but he’s been used in a really negative passive role down back and I reckon his form has been down. He is usually one of our best kicks but he has been missing them lately. Is he injured?

RE Ash I can see him moving to permanent midfield where he can be a very effective user of the ball and also can do tagging roles which Leon likes doing. He just needs one more pre-season to develop an elite tank.

He’s a great young player.

Yeah agreed on Whitfield doesn't seem like he's being as aggressive with his kickng recently he's such an elite kick as well.

Yeah I really rate ash moving into that specialized wing role. This tagging is the apprenticeship for that move.

Whitfield had a great final quarter for us on the weekend. He has been down I agree. I think it’s pretty common for players who have a big injury to take a
Long time to get up to their own standard… Neal at the lions would be an example of that
