Wow ... that was so interesting. The hosts got more information out of him than the police would have got and they asked all the right questions.

Sounded like Stern and Mia thought it was a prank or the guy was lying for say the first half of it, and then realizing it might be true, started grilling

Agree, Stern was at the point of knowing it was true when he asked 'Have you got any tattoos?' That was for identification purposes.
I'm going to listen to this again later when it's a bit quieter. There's a few things that jumped out, one was when he admitted to killing first when he was sixteen years old. Serial killers more commonly start much earlier than we tend to think imo.

Yep, there was a point when Stern started thinking if true i gotta dig for clues.
But im personally 50:50 on whether he really was a serial killer or not. Sometimes people call up or admit to being a killer just for attention. There were a few things Clay said, or the way he said them, that made me think he was making stuff up on the fly.

They didn't catch him? There was one that rang in to radio a while back, I think it was the 'Weepy Voiced Killer' and he confessed. They got him iirc. I'll look it up later.

Said at end of video the FBI took the tapes off Stern, but to this day no one has ever been caught for said murders.

Obviously, one of the biggest questions here is...could this actually be real, or is "Clay" playing some sort of very sick joke?

They say some of the details the caller talked about were things that only the killer would know.
Unfortunately, to me, this call seems like it may actually be real. Reading comments online and on this video, it looks like I'm not alone.
So, whatever became of "Clay the Serial Killer"? Was the FBI able to get enough information from The Howard Stern Show phone call to make an arrest?

Victor Gant and Russell Ellwood
In 1991, a serial killer began claiming numerous victims in the Algiers and Treme neighborhoods of New Orleans, eventually credited with 24 murders throughout the 1990s.
In 1995 New Orleans Police Officer Victor Gant was listed as the prime suspect in the murders of his girlfriend Sharon Robinson, a New Orleans casino employee, and her friend Karen Iverster, allegedly a prostitute.
Although a suspect, Gant remained at his desk job with the NOPD. He reportedly submitted blood and tissue samples for the investigation, but nothing more is really known.

That guy is from Philly or Jersey, so there is a clue. I can tell his accent. Plus that's why he would call Stern. Stern came on 106.5 back then, and obviously he is huge in that area of the country.

I've always heard that and some claim that it stems from Irish immigrants from a century ago.
Personally, I don't really think his accent sounds like he's from New Orleans. Maybe, but my vote is no. That dude is originally from the New England area.

I’m originally from NOLA - I went to Disney world years ago and had a hard time trying to convince a family from New Jersey I wasn’t from the northeast (NJ or NYC) and I’m 75% Irish and my ancestors came in through the port of NOLA

Well, it comes from large populations of Irish, German and Italian immigrants all speaking English to each other as a second language with their respective accents that merged, to varying degrees to form the Boston, New York/Northern Jersey, Philly/South Jersey accents. Similar influences were at play in the Midwestern cities, but you had more Poles in Chicago and Ohio, more from Scandinavia in the upper Midwest which color those accents differently.
The only comparable city to those (particularly Northeastern) Yankee cities is New Orleans and that is why its accent is unlike anything else in the South and more like those Northern cities, although the French accent colors it in a unique way as well.

Obviously this is all opinion or anecdotal, but I've watched plenty interviews with convicted serial killers. They usually go two paths: dissociative or denial/remorseful.
This just does not pass the smell test to me. While many are attention seeking, he doesn't really come off as emotionally or purposefully motivated. He attributes it to boredom, but many of those guys who do multiples or find rhythms seem to hide their identity in the process itself or act. It's who they are.
I call BS.

I guess in 1997 nobody knew how to write down a phone number, log a call or reverse the phone number. This is just strange. I know they had caller ID because we had it at home in 1996.

Well, that makes me wonder if it’s Ellwood - the fbi supposedly contacted stern within a few days and Ellwood was arrested about six months later

Wouldn't FBI investigators obtain call charge records to ascertain which phone number was used to contact Howard Stern, and from that they could make enquiries as to the owner of the phone number of the incoming phone call?
I'm assuming this was done, and obviously it lead to a dead end.
