Rumour Blues coaching search debacle (down to their 4th or 5th choice)

I don’t know what to think. Lyon probably needed to be willing to partake in some sort of process but it seems like the Blues were taking some serious piss.

That club needs a serious humility check.

They can role play and swagger around behind closed doors, pretend to be mafioso and power brokers and say “we’re Carlton, * the rest” all they want, but they are breathtakingly out of touch with how far their reputation has fallen in the broader industry over the past two decades.

They are simply not big 4 anymore, and need to embrace reality and their beta status for now. If they want to be an alpha again, they have to earn it the hard way.

LOL you approach a guy and then later tell him you're going to take a 45 day process. Can anyone be surprised Ross told them to * off.

It's not like it's that great a job to begin with the chance you could be fired at any moment because they don't think you're improving fast enough even when you're tracking better than the 2 most recent "Super Coaches" in Clarkson and Hardwick.

Brad Scott apparently the favourite now not sure if we should wish him luck or not.

Who does Carlton go for now?

Clarkson's out. Pyke doesn't sound keen on returning to senior coaching. Scott seems to want the GM role at AFL HQ. Buckley sounds like he wants more time away from coaching + he might be too "Collingwood" for the role. Williams is a bit too old unless they partner him with a senior assistant ala Roos/Goodwin. Sayers comments seem to rule out the best assistant......

Who does Carlton go for now?
Anthony Koutafides.

Champion Carlton player, winner of Dancing with the Stars. Everybody loves Kouta, makes sure any spill motion against the Board fails.

Has a great relationship with Bruce Mathieson, calls him Brucey, whereas Luke Sayers has to call him Mr Mathieson or Sir.

Brings a fresh set of eyes to the coaching job as he's never done any before and he can bring back the experienced SOS back as list manager.*

I'll even offer up their new membership slogan;

It's the Carlton way

*EDIT; And Ron De Iulio as their head of culture and integrity;

A family member of mine works at Geelong Football Club. Reckons that Matthew Knights is in the mix for the Carlton gig and now being highly considered for the role with Chris Scotts endorsement.

Oh please. We all know that the next coach is just going to be a caretaker keeping the seat warm for when the most iconic, non existent baby in football history, the child of Kate Jesaulenko and her beautiful Trennie Croad is ready to take the reigns. Iconic.

Folks are getting high on "the narrative". There'll be dozens of highly rated assistant coaches throwing their hats in the ring. It'll be fine.
Makes an absolute mockery of Sayers first presser where he said they will be appointing the most senior coach available and expect to make finals next year. That's ridiculous pressure on a first year debutant coach like a Yze or a Kingsley.
