I'll build this up during the week as information comes known. For now it's just:

The GIANTS knockout Semi Final against Geelong has been confirmed for Optus Stadium in Perth this Friday night. The game will commence at 7.50pm which will be the first finals meeting between the clubs.

The GIANTS will enter the clash off the back of a gritty one-point win over the Swans in Launceston while the Cats will be looking to rebound after a 43-point loss to Port Adelaide on the opening weekend of the finals. The GIANTS will be hoping to repeat the upset win they had over the Cats in round 21 when an undermanned GIANTS outfit orchestrated a rare win at GMHBA Stadium by 19 points.

With former GIANT Jeremy Cameron missing the round 21 clash through injury, Friday night shapes as the first time the life-member comes up against his former club since moving to the Cats. It'll be the GIANTS first trip to Perth since the round two loss against Fremantle. The team will fly west from Tasmania on Tuesday.

Possible team changes are discussed in the unoffial preview thread:

Rising star Tom Green has been ruled out of the remainder of the season as he gets set to undergo surgery on a broken arm. Green injured his arm in the third quarter of the GIANTS’ one-point win over the Swans and tried to play out the match but was unable to continue. “Scans on Sunday revealed a fractured radius and he’ll undergo surgery at some point in the coming week.”

Meanwhile, Isaac Cumming and Sam Reid remain tests for this week’s semi-final against Geelong in Perth after also picking up injuries in the elimination final. Cumming was subbed out after landing on his ankle during the third quarter. “Isaac’s rolled his ankle but scans have revealed no major damage which is great news,” Ball said. “He’ll now rest up in the early part of the week and then we’ll ramp up his training and see how he gets through as to whether he’s available for Friday night’s game.”

Reid also came off late in the game for his hamstring to be assessed but remains a test to play this week. “Reidy’s had some issues with his hamstring’s this year but could have played out the game on Saturday should we have needed him,” Ball said. “We’ll see how he trains later in the week and make a decision on whether he’s fit to take his place in the semi-final.”

Adam Kennedy will also look to prove his fitness after he missed the elimination final with a low-grade hamstring injury he suffered at training last week. “Adam’s progressing well after missing last week’s game and again, we’ll see how he trains this week to see if he’s also available for selection,” Ball said.

Callum Brown is available for selection after overcoming his own hamstring injury and working his way back to full fitness.

Xavier O’Halloran (calf), Brent Daniels (hamstring) and Nick Shipley (ankle) won’t be available to take on the Cats while ruck Braydon Preuss is also out after injuring his lower back. “Braydon’s developed some soreness in his lower back that has prevented him from being able to train at full capacity,” Ball said. “We’ll get some more information over the coming days but he won’t be available to play at the moment.”

Im not sure we can trust Reids hammies again... I would like kennedy in too because he plays that wing role for us really well... but again can we trust players just coming back from injury so fast?

I agree; I'd like another week to confirm recovery - we ended up with Cumming, Green & Reid all down in that final quarter - which I'm sure contributed to us being absolutely exhausted. Let's not start off vulnerable to in-game injuries.

Apparently Danger is playing with a broken hand of sorts.

Normally he puts heaps of mayo on his "injuries" so im genuinely surprised he has played through pain. Would absolutely explain why his output has been down

Reid shouldn't be picked this week, he didn't play that well plus the issue of him getting injured and having to be a rotation down throughout the game makes things all the more difficult. Give Peatling a go, think we can make it work he adds some more ball use and creativity out of the back half.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Davis comes in to help out down back .... escpecially if Cumming Doesn’t get up ... not like for like but we have the flexibility to cover

Peatling seems as the likely replacement if anything was to happen to Cumming

Nervous about Mummy and another late game fadeout. Got cleaned up at stoppage in that last quarter last week
Coming off a 6 day break and playing in back to back weeks for him it could get pretty rough at times, might see more Sproule in the ruck then usual if Mummy isn't effective

Look this narrative that Mummy was cooked and had a "fade out" in the 4th Quarter is rubbish.

He managed 9 hitouts, a clearance and three tackles (two of which were inside 50) in that 4th Qtr. Those stats are on par with the rest of the three quarters he put together.

He also took a critical mark on the wing there.

It just buys into the narrative he fell away. He didn't. Hickey had a couple of marks in the 4th and thats the basis of a 4th qtr fadeout.... doesn't stack up to me

Back the bloke in... every game is his last game

How interesting we have selected smaller and faster players to combat Geelong. They will want to dominate contested ball and then go slow with kick mark on a large ground being hard to defend. We will want to dominate the contested ball and move it really fast to catch them out on the break.

Its actually the exact reverse of last week's game plan... and if we can pull it off it would show a really mature team that can adapt and change week to week. IT would be a huge tick to the team and coaching staff.

Even so... Geelong are the Man City of the AFL and have gone and bought up everyone's best players... the fact they can afford to drop ("manage") Higgins is astounding.

I can't see us getting up in this one unless we bully them around the ball and put pressure on their ball movement. The pressure is what Port did so well last week and the Cats looked out on their feet. I'm looking forward to the game and hope its a good one to watch

He also was forced to miss an interchange in the last quarter as the ball was stuck on the other side of the ground .... so more credit to him

Pretty nervous for tonight considring Geelong's record when bouncing back from losses in finals, but for the most part really like the team that's been selected from the avaliable players.
