OK, this was very tough!!
Tried to make it realistic as possible with what teams are actually trying to do (Coll and WB getting points this year, STK wanting picks this year, GC happy to move out of this years draft a bit), but also had to add some players that might not move, like Hunt.

So in this situation it is the best way to value a trade. As the pies are the team in the league that needs points the most.
The best thing to do when trying to group up picks to move higher is apply about a 30% loading to the points.

For example, from the picks mentioned before
1630652951267.png

This is a 26% loading on point to move up.

In AFL world, this is highly influenced by the motivations of the teams trading (ie for points, or because someone REALLY wants to move up) but 25-30% loading is a good rule of thumb

In AFL world, this is highly influenced by the motivations of the teams trading (ie for points, or because someone REALLY wants to move up) but 25-30% loading is a good rule of thumb

This makes sense.

In the scenario i outlined, Collingwood are absolutely motivated to:

1. Get points to get out of deficit
2. Reduce salary cap pressures
3. Set themselves up for a big crack at the 2022 draft

I'm not sure they will need a 30% buffer when most of their points are going for one player.

Collingwood can find more points very easily. I'm not sure about the respective circumstances of how many each will draft but they could:

Trade 33 to Richmond for 40 and 44
Trade 39 to Essendon for 48 and 54
On trade 40 and 41 to Gold Coast for 43, 55, 58 and 66

They gain nearly 300 points from those three deals.

A lot depends on how many picks can be used. I assumed they’d gone back to picks for list places and last year was an anomaly. But I’m hearing it’s like last year which is a huge bonus for the Pies and Dogs if true.
Can anyone confirm?

Gold Coast get: [PLAYERCARD]Jordan De Goey[/PLAYERCARD]
Gold Coast Lose: Pick 3

Collingwood get: Pick 26 (Richmond), Richmond 2022 First round pick.
Collingwood lose: [PLAYERCARD]Jordan De Goey[/PLAYERCARD]

Richmond Get: Pick 3
Richmond lose: Pick 26, Richmond 2022 First round pick

Gold Coast get their big dog, Pies get out of deficit and add another first round pick next year to go with what could be a very high pick of their own, and Richmond get Finn Callaghan to take over from Cotch.

Richmond would enter the draft with 3,7,16. An unbelievable haul coming off a dynasty.
GC getting ripped off. Pies isnt too bad. Richmond doing very very well.

Darcy moore and future 2nd rd pick for gold coast for pick 3, 43,53.

Trade pick 3 and de goey to North for pick 1 and their future 2nd

Effectively out moore and de goey for pick 1 and points to match the daicos bid at pick 2, yeah, the short term hit is obvious. however the extra points mean their first pick next year doesn't slide a couple of places due to a points deficit. They make room this year in their cap for a free agent this year and maybe next.

Eh. Cerra is pretty much guaranteed to be Carlton bound. Not overly fussed. And Freo get screwed over in this deal

Lol Brisbane clearly screwed over here Shiel is useless
You need to take the rose coloured glasses off. Brisbane get about fair value, Essendon do well and Freo get screwed.

FWIW I think if a Cerra/Neale deal does eventuate it probably eventuates like:

Brisbane in: Picks 6, 24 and a future 3rd
Brusbane out: [PLAYERCARD]Lachie Neale[/PLAYERCARD] and pick 14

Carlton in: Adam Cerra
Carlton out: Picks 6 and 24

Fremantle in: [PLAYERCARD]Lachie Neale[/PLAYERCARD] and pick 14
Fremantle out: Adam Cerra and a future 3rd

Not perfect but the best I can come up with.

Brisbane getting majorly ripped off there.

Nah. Not at his age and coming off a serious back injury.

Hes not old. The injury isnt a career threatening one so i dont think its significantly affecting his trade value.

An 8 spot ugrade plus 24 and a future pick that will get swallowed up on a bid match anyway wont be enough for brisbane to trade a brownlow winning mid with 2 years on his contract.

This... is awful. Well done.

That said I wonder if Sydney and Essendon fans would be that devastated.

That was the point of the future pick...

Maybe they get 18 instead of 14 but that's all I'd be trading from a Freo perspective.

And all back injuries are potentially career ending. Something Freo are well aware of.
