Depends where you intend to use him too. We used him everywhere except the ruck. Intercepting tall defender, rebounding defender, wing, high half forward, deep medium forward. Inside mid was where he played in the NEAFL and put up some absolutely absurd stats, though it is NEAFL to be fair.

Can play anywhere you need him but if he's outside of the backline he probably needs the team to be decent to get the most out of him.

Fair, I think we'd be paying him the amount I expect we're offering him to play off a wing (and probably pushing into defence at times if need). I'd guess the hope is to try and make the 8 in 2023, so we'd hopefully be able to play to Dawson's strengths as much as possible while he's at the club

3rd in his position in the league is pretty good isn’t it? I would have thought that’s a pretty good reflection of his 2021. Elite at his general defender role.

I agree with being elite at the general defender role, though IMO he's a lot more than that. Pushed up the ground for quite a bit of 2021, and was a catalyst behind a lot of the Swans' good form. Added the great overhead marking element to his game, too

I guess it depends how far we think the rebuild is along. If we think it’s mostly there and we need to develop the kids we have then let’s trade for Dawson.

I am a bit less optimistic. I think multi premiership midfields usually look like Hodge-Mitchell-Lewis, or Martin-Cotchin-Prestia. Bontempelli-Macrae-Smith. Oliver-Petracca-Viney.

I don’t think we have that talent base today. I think we should hit the draft until we do.

There must be a non-zero chance we can Jack Martin in Dawson via the PSD. Then everyone is happy.

If Dawson specifically nominates us, I reckon 23 + a 2022 2nd (with other bits and pieces involved) should get the deal over the line. If push came to shove, I'd give up pick 4 if we were getting 12 back, but I don't think it'll necessarily come to that

Dawson says he's homesick no way North Collingwood or Gold coast try to steal Dawson in the pre season draft.

Collingwood might be taking a different player plus their cap is tight, so is Gold coast's would only have to pass by North

Keays has improved, but he’s still only a good honest trier who is a workhorse type player. A meat and potato type player. We already have that with Crouch and Sloane.

We really need an elite ball mover and finisher to compliment the rebuilding midfield.

My educated guess is that we value what he brings, but know that he does so in a position that doesn't deserve to be renumerated particularly highly.

Kelly himself sees that he finished 5th in our BnF and wants a longer term deal with a pay increase.

Much like Crouch I doubt he'll find it.

The 5th is the demented voting system. Playing your role to an elite standard means yoy had an elite impact on the game. That's total bullshit.

As a swans supporter I'm devastated by the loss of Dawson. If you think he is an outside receiver then you haven't watched him play. He is the player who breaks apart zone defence from kick ins as well as inside 50s. He is a great contested mark and plays both ends of the ground. He was also the best kick in our entire squad and was consistent throughout the season. His attributes are pretty rare and we were building our entire game plan around him and a couple of others.
I know that you guys have had to go through this yourselves in the past so I would want him to go to you instead of Port for that reason. And also because last year we lost an AA backman to Port as well.
If I were you I would throw the kitchen sink at him to get him across. I believe he is just that good. And only 24. [emoji25]

If we don't get Dawson because we're busy signing a better player I'm sure no one will mind

If we miss Dawson and pick up nothing or some scrub then I'm sure people will be a tad disappointed

Those teams have lots of midfield depth and we are getting there.
Have to keep taking best mid with our 1st pick for a few more years to get a truly elite set up.

Dawson and Lukosius in the same side would be huge.
Tall elite kicks that can play either end.
